Online applications are invited from the eligible candidates for admission to the Ph.D. Course Work 2023-2024. Please visit the University website: www.nbu.ac.in for application form, eligibility criteria and other information which will be available from 5th August, 2023.

North Bengal University offers PhD admission for the academic year 2023-24. A PhD, which stands for Doctor of Philosophy, is a doctoral degree focusing on academic pursuits. To be eligible for Ph.D. admission, candidates need to have a master’s degree from a UGC-approved university with at least 50% marks. The admission process is based on entrance exam scores, such as UGC NET/CSIR UGC NET.

The duration of the Ph.D. course is typically three years, and students are expected to complete it within a maximum of five to six years. Prospective students intending to apply for the PhD program in the 2023 session should ensure they meet the university’s eligibility criteria. Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for admission to the Ph.D. Program at the University of North Bengal are as follows: Candidates must have a Master’s Degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s Degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body.

The candidate should have obtained at least 55% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade of ‘B’ in the UGC-7 point scale. For candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories, a relaxation of 5% in marks will be allowed.

Prospective Ph.D. applicants must meet these criteria to be eligible for admission to the program.

Selection Criteria

The selection of Ph.D. students at the North Bengal University is based on the following criteria:

Entrance Test: The university conducts an Entrance Test for admission to the Ph.D. program. All candidates, except for those who qualify for UGC-NET (including JRF), UGC-CSIR NET, SLET, or GATE, are required to appear for this Entrance Test.

Exemption Criteria: Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF), UGC-CSIR NET, SLET, or GATE and those who have completed the M.Phil. program may be exempted from the Entrance Test. The university may decide separate terms and conditions for the Ph.D. Entrance Test for such candidates.

The final selection of Ph.D. students will be based on their performance in the Entrance Test (if applicable) and other criteria as per the university’s rules and regulations. It’s important for prospective candidates to fulfill the eligibility requirements and prepare for the Entrance Test (if applicable) to increase their chances of admission to the Ph.D. program at the North Bengal University.
