DHWU was established by the West Bengal government in 2013, with the passing of the Diamond Harbour Women’s University Act. The university was created with the aim of providing higher education to women, and to promote gender equality in the state. The university started with 6 postgraduate courses and has since expanded its offerings to include several undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
