Karnatak University PhD Admission Notification 2021-2022. Applications for admissions to the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in the prescribed form are invited from the eligible candidates for the academic year 2021-22.

Modes of Ph.D Programme

A candidate may register either full-time or part-time Ph.D programme.

Full-time Ph.D programme shall be undertaken by an eligible candidate who will work on regular basis in the department till the submission of thesis.

Part time Ph.D programme shall be undertaken by In-Service (Regular Full time service) /Professional Candidates. The part-time Ph.D candidates who are employed on full-time basis in which he/she has reported has to submit i) NOC from the Head of the Institution /Organization, (ii) Service Certificate issued by the Employer, and (ii) Letter of Undertaking by the candidate at the time of provisional registration for Ph.D. Only full-time employee of an Institution/Organization is allowed to undertake part time Ph.D. Programme. A teacher fellow (On QIP/FIP Programme) shall work on a regular basis in the Department/Research Centre during the period of Fellowship.

A candidate shall submit duly filled-in application form along with necessary documents to the Chairperson of the concerned PG Department on or before 09.05.2022.

Eligibility for Admission

1.1 Any candidate who has obtained a Post-Graduate Degree from a recognized university including foreign candidates (sponsored by their Embassies) and sponsored candidat securing minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/Cat-I/Differently-abled candidates) at the Post-Graduate Degree shall be eligible to apply for Ph.D. Programme.

1.2 In case of candidates appointed on regular basis prior to 31″ March, 1992 as Teachers, Librarians and Physical Education personnel in Colleges and University Departments, the minimum marks shall be 50% (45% for SC/ST/Cat-I/Differently-abled) provided they (employees) are continuing in service at the time of submission of application for Ph.D registration.

If the results of Master’s Degree are declared in the form of Grades/Credits/ Cumulative Points in their markscards /transcripts, such Grades/Points shall be converted into percentages to assess the minimum eligibility criteria as per the Grade point norms specified by the respective qualifying examination’s marks statement.

Entrance Test

2.1 All the applicants possessing the eligibility at their P.G. Degree as specified in Regulations 1.1 and 1.2 shall appear for Entrance Test.

2.2 However, (a) Government sponsored foreign candidates, (b) candidates who have cleared UGC/UGC-CSIR/JRF/NET/SLET(Karnataka)/GATE/GRE/M.Phil (admitted through an Entrance Test) shall be exempted from Entrance Test.

Candidates who have cleared UGC/UGC-CSIR/JRF/ NET /SLET (Karnataka)/ GATE/GRE/M.Phil (admitted through an Entrance Test) willing to appear for the Entrance Test shall apply separately by paying prescribed fees.

2.3 Maximum Marks for Entrance Test: 100 marks

2.4 Nature of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ).

2.5 Syllabus for Entrance Test: Research Methodology and Cognate/Core subjects of the P.G. Department conducting Entrance Test.

2.6 Number of Questions: 100 questions, each carrying I mark: 50% of the questions shall be from Research Methodology and the remaining 50% from cognate/core subjects.

2.7 The 50 Questions on Research Methodology shall consist of data interpretation, language comprehension and test of reasoning. The other 50 Questions shall be based on the current PG syllabus of cognate/core subjects.

2.8 Duration of Entrance Test: 120 minutes.

2.9 Venue of Entrance Test: Exam Section and Dr. R.C.Hiremath Institute of Kannada Studies, Karnatak University, Dharwad.

Preparation of Merit List: Karnatak University PhD Admission

3.1 The Government sponsored foreign candidates, candidates who have cleared UGC JRF/UGC-CSIR-JRF/GATE/GRE/NET/SLET(Karnataka)/ M.Phil (admitted through an Entrance Test) shall be placed first in the Consolidated Merit List based on their percentage of marks secured by them at their qualifying PG examination.

3.2 After the Entrance Test, the merit list of the candidates shall be prepared as per merit on the basis of the marks obtained in the entrance test and marks obtained in the qualifying examination in the ratio of 50:50. However, the candidate has to secure a minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/Cat-I/Differently-abled Candidates) in the Entrance Test.

3.3 The eligible candidates as per the Merit List shall be considered for the present declared vacancies as notified.

3,4 The candidates as per merit list shall attend interview in respective PG Departments. Attending the interview is mandatory. Eligibility to appear for the interview shall not be considered as confirmation of registration for Ph.D programme.

3.5 There will be no waiting list for Ph.D seat selection.

Course Work (Four papers)-16 weeks for both the Full time and Part time candidates.

4.1 Registered Full-time and Part-time Ph.D candidates shall undertake course work of one semester (16 weeks), in the Parent Department within one year from the date of provisional registration, failing which his/her registration shall be cancelled. However, if it is found necessary, course work may be carried out by doctoral candidates in Sister Departments/ Institutes / Research Centers recognized by the University for which due credit shall be given to such candidates. The course work is mandatory.

4.2 The course work for Ph.D programme comprises four papers. Paper I, II & III are for 100 marks each, and paper IV is for 50 marks. Wherein, Course 1: Research Methodology, Course II: Cognate/core Subject/s; Course III: Area of Research, and Course – IV: Research and Publication Ethics (RPE). This shall be followed by comprehensive Viva-Voce exam for 50 marks. However, it must be noted that courses I & II are common for all the candidates in the particular Department/Subject/Discipline and Course IV: Research and Publication Ethics (RPE) is common for all the candidates across all the Disciplines/Faculties.

Instructions for submitting applications with fees challan:

6.1 Application form and the bank challan shall be downloaded from the website www.kud.ac.in and the duly filled-in application form, along with all the enclosures (including the original copy of the challan for Application Processing fee) shall be submitted to the Chairperson of the concerned PG Department at Karnatak University, Dharwad

6.2 The fee details are as under:

i Application fees: Rs 2.200/- (Rs. 1.100/- for SC/ST/Cat-I full time candidates only).

Fees once paid cannot be refunded.

6.3 The candidates have to remit the prescribed fees in State Bank of India /Canara Bank of KUD by downloading the appropriate challan (online/offline). The Account No. and IFSC code are mentioned in the challans. The candidates should attach the 2nd and 3 parts of the challan along with the application form. Duly filled in application form along with all the necessary enclosures should be submitted to the Chairperson of the concerned P.G. Department, K.U. Dharwad.

6.4 Please refer to circular No.KU/Aca/PG/Ph.D/ASO/2022-23/05 dated: 12.04.2022 related to roster for seat allocation.

Caste Certificate/Fees Exemption:

The SC/ST/CAT-1 candidates shall submit their Caste Certificates issue by Tahasildar/ Competent Authority irrespective of its date of issue. Whereas the income certificate shall be within five years from the date of notification and below the creamy layer (below Rs. 10 lakh).

Applications without valid certificates will not be considered and incomplete applications are liable to be rejected.

Candidates from other universities, if selected, shall submit Eligibility Certificate issued by the Academic Section, Karnatak University, Dharwad at the time of admission, by submitting the required documents and stipulated fees without fail.
