IISER Kolkata invites applications from motivated students for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme for the Spring 2024.
The selected candidates can do Ph.D. in any of the following disciplines: Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Computational and Data Sciences, Earth Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, Physical Sciences and Space Sciences.
Reservations for candidates will be as per Govt.of India norms.

IISER Kolkata Admission 2024: Chemical Sciences
The Department of Chemical Sciences (DCS) at IISER Kolkata invites applications for regular Ph.D. programme in the Spring Semester of 2024 in the disciplines of Inorganic, Organic, Physical and Theoretical Chemistry.
Minimum Eligibility Criteria: Bright and motivated candidates who have passed M.Sc. examination with minimum 55% marks in any field of Chemistry or Physics or Mathematics.
In addition, the candidates must have valid GATE Score Card, CSIR/UGC-NET LS or other Equivalent National Eligibility Exam.
OR
Besides satisfying minimal eligibility criteria, the candidates must have CSIR/UGC-NET JRF, INSPIRE fellowship or other Equivalent Fellowships.

IISER Kolkata Admission 2024: Earth Sciences
Applications for externally funded and IISER Kolkata funded PhD positions in Department of Earth Sciences (DES).
The Department of Earth Sciences (DES), IISER Kolkata is looking for bright and motivated students, who have completed their M.Sc./MS/M.Sc. Tech/M. Tech (with minimum of 55% marks) in:
1) Geology/Applied Geology/Geophysics /Earth Sciences/Marine geology/Environmental Sciences/Environmental Studies/Atmospheric Science or any other branch of Geological sciences.
Or
2) Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Biological Sciences/Computational Seismology/interested to pursue research with the DES faculty member in the matching specialization. Final year post-graduate students who are yet to obtain their degree may also apply; however, they must have completed their degree at the time of admission. Department of Physical Sciences (DPS)
Minimum Eligibility criteria:
Applications are invited from candidates having Masters degree with at least 60% aggregate marks in any field of Physical Sciences for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program. Final year post-graduate students who are yet to obtain their degree may also apply, however, they must complete the MSc/MS degree at the time of admission with the requisite 60% aggregate marks.
Selection of the candidates will be as per the GoI norms. Candidates belonging to the respective reserved category need to submit relevant certificates and documents.

Q: Is there a prescribed format for recommendation letter?
A: Yes, there is a prescribed format for the recommendation letter which can be downloaded here: [PDF] [DOC] . We need two letters from your teachers assessing your knowledge, aptitude for higher studies. These letters should be sealed and signed across by the recommender. It is important to bring these two letters during the interview.
Q: Will I get any accommodation in IISER Kolkata during the interview?
A: Unfortunately, we are unable to provide accommodation to interview attendees at this point. However, the list of hotels near the campus could be found here.
Q: Is there any faculty member who is specializing in the topic of my interest?
A: Please go through the department wise listing of faculty members and find out the research interest that matches with yours. If you have specific questions regarding any scientific detail of the research, we encourage you to contact the faculty members directly to clarify your doubt.
Q: When do I have my interview?
A: We do publish department wise listing of candidates shortlisted for interviews. In that list you will find the date when your interview is scheduled for.
Q: Where do I go for my interview?
A: All our interviews are conducted in the Lecture Hall Complex at IISERK Main campus at Mohanpur.
Q: Do I have to bring photocopies of original documents?
A: We always recommend you to bring two sets of photocopies of the original documents.
Q: What are the documents that I have to bring during the interview?
A: You should bring the following documents:
Photo ID Proof
Hard copy of application with signature
Self-Attested copies of all the relevant academic records, such as mark sheets and certificates of all examinations starting from the secondary level
Fellowship award letter / Admit Card + Result
Two recommendation letters (in prescribed format) in sealed envelopes
Q: Do I get transport allowance?
A: IISER Kolkata does not provide transport allowance for attending the interview.
Q: Do I need to stay overnight for my interview?
A: Your interview will be over by 6 pm on the specified interview date. However, you need to account for the time it takes to reach Kolkata from Mohanpur before you plan your travel.
