About Fakir Mohan University

The Fakir Mohan University, Vyasa Vihar, Balasore is a leading Public University in the state Odisha, accredited with “A” grade by NAAC with CGPA of 3.18 and ranked in the band ‘151- 200’ by National Institutional Ranking Framework. The University was established by the Government of Odisha, under Section 32 of the Odisha Universities Act, 1989 (Act 5 of 1989) and it was notified vide the Government’s Notification No. 973 dated 3rd July, 1999. The University has also been duly recognized by the UGC under section 2(f) of the UGC Act by the Notification No. F-9-1 / 2000 (CPP-I), dated 11th February 2000 as well as under section 12(B), vide UGC letter No. F.9-1 /2000 (CPP-I) dated 23rd December, 2005. It has also been accredited by the Association of Indian Universities, vide their letter No. Meet: SC: 261:2K/108693, dated 22nd August, 2000.

Objectives of Ph.D. Programme

The major objectives of the Ph.D. program of Fakir Mohan University are (a) to enable students to conduct original research in a specific field or discipline and to make a significant contribution to the body of knowledge in their chosen area of study; (b) to promote critical thinking and the development of advanced problem-solving skills; (c) to encourage interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary research, enabling candidates to draw from multiple fields of study to address complex research questions; (d) to nurture leadership skills and encourage candidates to push the boundaries of knowledge by adhering to high ethical standards in their research, follow ethical guidelines related to data collection, human subjects, and academic integrity; (f) to be in forefront of innovation and can contribute to their fields in transformative ways by gaining the ability to secure research funding and publish scholarly work, and finally (g) to make a broader societal impact by addressing real-world problems, influencing policy, and contributing to the betterment of communities and society at large.

Categories of Ph.D. Programme

Fakir Mohan University offers the following two types of Ph.D. programme:

  1. Regular mode (Ph.D.)
  2. Executive mode (Executive Ph.D.)

Eligibility criteria for admission into Ph.D. Programme

The following candidates are eligible to seek admission to the Ph.D. programme of Fakir Mohan University:

For Regular Mode

Candidates who have completed: Fakir Mohan University PhD Admission 2024

A 2-year/ 4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree or a 1-year/ 2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/ 8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.

or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.

A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/ Differently-Abled, and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time.

Provided that a candidate seeking admission directly after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/ Differently-Abled, and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time.

A pass in M.Sc. (Computer Science / Information Technology / Information Science / Software Engineering / Computer Technology) / MCA with a minimum of 55% or its equivalent grade point average in the relevant discipline of this University or any other University accepted by the Syndicate as equivalent thereto.

Physical Education

A pass in Master’s Degree (M.P.Ed. / M.P.E. / M.P.E.S.) with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) or in an examination recognised as equivalent thereto.

Psychology

A pass in Master’s Degree in Psychology or other specialization in Psychology (Applied Psychology / Clinical Psychology / Guidance and Counselling / Organizational Behaviour etc.). with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) or in an examination recognised as equivalent thereto.

Sociology

A pass in Master’s Degree in Sociology with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) or in an examination recognised as equivalent thereto.

Zoology

A pass in Master’s Degree in Zoology / Life Science (Zoology) / Bio Science (Zoology) with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) or in an examination recognised as equivalent thereto.

Executive Ph.D.

Primary Eligibility Criteria

  1. Reputation of the company or organization where the candidate is working:The companies (private/government), research organizations, Ministries of centra and State Governments wherein the candidate is presently employed should have well established reputation and image and possibly known to the faculty members of the department in which the candidate is desirous of seeking Ph.D. admission.
  2. Defence or other ministries of the Government of India or any other government organizations;
  3. Established industrial research and development organizations;
  4. Autonomous bodies and public undertakings excluding academic institutions

Requisite Qualification

  1. Candidate shall have Master’s Degree or any other Degree/ Diploma of the University or any other Degree/ Diploma of any other University/ Institution recognized as equivalent thereto, with minimum of 55% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) or an equivalent Grade. Due relaxation shall be given to the applicants belonging to the reserved categories as per the rules of the State Govt./Govt. of India. The candidate should possess a good moral character, certified by the Head of the Institution/Department last attended, to be enclosed along with the application for registration.
  2. Experience: Five years of post-qualification experience (experience may include stints at multiple organizations) for candidates holding Master degree in relevant disciplines.
  3. Candidates need to provide a ‘NO OBJECTION’ certificate issued on a proper letterhead from the appropriate authority in the organization or employing authority, stating it has no issues with the candidate pursuing Ph.D. under the proposed scheme. No commitment of financial support or the continuation of their employment during or after the PhD is required.

Procedure for Admission: Fakir Mohan University PhD Admission 2024

Admission into the Ph.D. programme shall be made using the following two level of tests (written Test and Viva-voce):

Level-I Test (Written test)

a) FMU-RET category students:

The candidates who have not qualified any national level tests (such as UGC-NET/ UGC- CSIR NET/ GATE and similar National level tests) must appear Fakir Mohan University Research Eligibility Test (FMU-RET). All candidates (except those have qualified national level tests, as mentioned in Exempted category) are required to appear Level-I Test.

  1. The Entrance Test (FMU-RET) syllabus shall consist of 50% of Research Methodology, and 50% shall be subject specific (for details refer point 5 d).
  2. Students who have secured 50 % marks in RET are eligible to be called for the interview.
  3. A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in RET for the candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ Differently-abled category, and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time.

b) Exempted category students:

However, the candidates who have qualified in UGC-NET/ UGC- CSIR NET/ GATE and similar National level tests are exempted from FMU-RET are required to fill the online application form. Although FMU-RET is optional for these category of students (they may not opt for the FMU-RET while filling online application form), yet they must apply using the online application form and need to appear and qualify Level II examination on an interview for admission into Ph.D. programme.

c) Mode of the Examination:

The written test and viva shall be conducted in Physical mode only.

Medium of the Question Paper:

The medium of the Question paper shall be in English only except the language subjects.

f) Subject and Syllabus of the Test:

The RET subjects list for the session 2023-24 are given at point no. 11 of the Information Bulletin. For Paper-II, the entrance syllabus is same as approved for the Post Graduate curriculum of Fakir Mohan University in the respective P.G. Department. The syllabus may be downloaded from the website of the respective department, Fakir Mohan University. The syllabus for Paper-I is same as the UGC- NET syllabus, which may be downloaded from UGC website: https://www.ugcnetonline.in/syllabus-new.php.

g) Marking Scheme:

Each question carries 01 (one) mark. There is no negative marking for incorrect answer. No marks will be allotted for question (s) un-answered by the candidates. If any question found incorrect/ambiguous or has multiple correct answers, only those candidates who have attempted the question and chosen one of the correct answers would be given the credit. If a question found to be incorrect (may be due to human or technical error) and the Question is dropped, then one mark shall be given to the candidates who have attempted the question.

h) The Validity of the RET Score:

The FMU-RET (2023-24) score is valid for this admission notification only.

N.B: The candidate having valid FMU-RET also need to apply afresh by filling online application form. After filling up the online application form, they shall be eligible to face interview (Level II Test) for admission into Ph.D. programme for the session 2023-24. However, appearing in the written test (Level I Test) is not mandatory for them.

Level-II Test (Interview)

The Level-II Test is mandatory for all the candidates who have qualified FMU RET as well as the candidates exempted from Level-I Test (written) and all required to qualify Level- II Test for getting enrolled into Ph.D. programme. The candidates who have qualified the Level-I test and those belonging to the Exempted category are eligible to appear Level-II Test.

  1. The concerned P. G. department of the University may decide the number of eligible students to be called for an interview based on the number of Ph. D. seats available (refer point 11 of this Bulletin).
  2. While the selection of RET qualified candidates will be based on the performance in the entrance test and the interview/ viva-voce with a weightage of 70% for the entrance test and 30% for the performance in the interview/ viva-voce, selection of candidates who have qualified in UGC- NET/ UGC- CSIR NET/ GATE and similar National level tests will be based on the performance in the interview/ viva-voce only.
  3. A brief write-up providing a broad outline of the proposed research work which the Ph.D. scholar shall submit on the day of the interview to the concerned P.G. Department, FMU while the verification of the original documents.

Application Process: Fakir Mohan University PhD Admission 2024

Following are the important instructions for filling up the online application form

  1. The candidates should have a valid email ID and phone number before applying the online application form for admission into Ph.D. programmes in Fakir Mohan University.
  2. The applicants should keep ready a scanned copy of a passport size photograph, scanned copy of signature and other documents (all in .jpg / .JPEG file format) before filling up the online application form. Candidates seeking admission into different Ph.D. programmes of the University should follow the following steps for successful submission of application.

iii. STEP 3: Filling up the Online application form

Following steps are required for filling up the online form.

  • Online registration form is available in the University Website https://fmuniversityadm.samarth.edu.in/
  • Applicants are required to fill all the entries in the online registration form before pressing the submit button.

iv. STEP 3 Download the successfully submitted online application form and take a print out for your reference.

v. One copy of the submitted application form, copies of self-attested supporting documents along with 3 copies of research proposal / writeup (within 2000 words) require are to be submitted at the time of interview to the HOD of the respective P.G. Department, Fakir Mohan University, Balasore, Odisha.

N.B.: (i) The candidate will be held responsible for any wrong information provided by them in the filled in application form, which may lead to the cancellation of his/her application/ admission for the programme. (ii) All information related to the admission into the Ph.D. programme will be notified in the University website and no separate intimation will be sent to the candidate by post. Therefore, candidates are advised to visit the university website regularly.

Reservation: Fakir Mohan University PhD Admission 2024

Admission into the Ph.D. programme shall adhere to the State-Level reservation policy as applicable.

FMU-RET 2023 is the entrance test for admission into Ph.D. program in different subjects of the University. This is mandatory for the candidates who have not qualified any national level tests (such as UGC-NET/ UGC- CSIR NET/ GATE and similar National level tests) in respective subject to appear at Fakir Mohan University Research Eligibility Test (FMU-RET). Candidates with M.Phil. degree from any recognized University shall also have to apply online application form and appear for the FMU-RET in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Awards of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulation 2022. The application using the online from is also mandatory for candidates with valid FMU-RET. However, for such candidates the written entrance (Level-I Test i.e., Written) is optional but they have to qualify the Viva-voce / Interview (i.e., Level- II Test) for admission into Ph.D. programme.

Eligible candidates who wish to apply for more than one discipline are required to fill separate online application forms with requisite application fee for each discipline after fulfilling the eligibility criteria, and appear at the FMU-RET in each subject separately. Accordingly, his/her rank in FMU-RET will be published separately and he/she must attend the viva-voce separately for each subject.

Admit card shall be provided to candidate before the entrance. The information about the download/ distribution of admit card shall be notified in the University website. Candidate are required to appear at the examination hall at least one hour before the commencement of the entrance with a hard copy of the admit card. No candidate will be allowed to enter the examination hall without admit card. Besides, it is also mandatory for all candidates to produce an Identity Proof (Aadhaar card/ Votter ID, Driving Licence or any other identity card issued by government bodies) along with the admit card at the entrance venue.

The schedule of entrance examination including the date, time and venue will be published in the University website. The venues for said Entrance Examination will be different departments of the F.M. University, Balasore, Odisha.

Publication of Merit List of the FMU-RET and the Provisional Merit List for admission into the Ph.D. programme shall be published in the university website. The concerned department shall notify the date of viva-voce.

Weightage: 70% for the entrance test and 30 % for the performance in the interview/viva-voce.
