Bharathiar University PhD Admission 2023

Applications for admission to Ph.D. programme (Full-Time/Part-Time- Regular Stream) for December 2023 session in the various departments of Bharathiar University, Colleges Affiliated to Bharathiar University in the Districts Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur and The Nilgiris and Recognized Research Institutions are invited from eligible candidates.

Candidate who are eligible and willing to apply for Ph.D. (F.T./P.T.) admission to more than one college shall submit separate applications for each and every college through online mode from the University website (www.bu.ac.in) from 01.11.2023 to 15.11.2023 Candidates have to pay the cost application for Rs.1000/- for Ph.D. for each programme through Online mode only. (for SC/ST RS.500/- for Ph.D) and should produce a photo copy of his/her community certificate obtained from the Revenue Department/RDO.

The filled in applications should be submitted on or before 15.11.2023 Late applications and incomplete applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.

December 2023 Ph.D. (FT/PT) admission will be made on the basis of the Common Entrance Test marks obtained in the June 2023, the interview marks and the Rules and Regulations of Bharathiar University. For further details kindly visit our website (www.b-u.ac.in).

Eligibility for M.Phil. Research Programme (Full time/Part time)

1) Eligibility for M.Phil. Research Programme (Full time/Part time) Candidates with Master’s degree of Bharathiar University in the concerned or related discipline or any other qualification recognized as equivalent thereto by the Syndicate of Bharathiar University are eligible.

The candidates should have passed a post-graduate degree course either with SSLC + HSC + UG + PG (i.e., 10 + 2 + 3 + 2) or with 11-years SSLC + PUC + UG + PG (i.e., 11 + 1 + 3 + 2) or with 10-years SSLC + 3 years Diploma + 2 years UG degree + 2 years PG (i.e., 10 + 3 + 2 + 2) or with 10 years SSLC + HSC + 4 years UG degree and 1 year PG degree (i.e., 10 + 2 + 4 + 1). Thus, only the candidates possessing a PG degree with 17 years of total duration of study alone are eligible for admission to the M. Phil., programme.

The candidates possessing professional degrees such as M. E., and M. Tech., and PG degree in Medicine, Law, Agriculture and similar other professional courses are not eligible for admission to the M.Phil., programmes of the University.

Registration for M.Phil. Programme

Registration for M.Phil., programme shall be of two categories, viz., full time and part time (with or without stipend/fellowship).

(a) Any candidate with the minimum qualification prescribed by University Grants Commission (UGC) shall register as a full time / part time scholar to pursue M. Phil., programme in a University Department or in a Research Department of Affiliated Colleges or in a Research Institution approved by the University.

(b) Candidates having a minimum of 55% marks and above in the Master’s degree and working as Full- time Research Fellows / Technical Assistants / Research Assistants in time-bound research schemes of one year duration or more in the University Departments / Research Departments of Affiliated Colleges / Research Institutions approved by the University shall be eligible to pursue the course leading to M.Phil., Degree.

(c) A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of UGC from time to time and for the candidates who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to September 19, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.

(d) Candidates belonging to the following categories are eligible to register for M. Phil., (Part-Time) programme:

i. Employees of any concern / organization / institution / Research and Development Centres / Laboratories within Tamil Nadu or Research Institutions recognized by Bharathiar University with a minimum of 55% of marks in the Master’s degree. (It is mandatory that such candidates should produce ‘No Objection Certificate (NOC)’ from their respective employers or Heads of the Institutions, in case of Educational Institutions).

ii. Teachers working in colleges affiliated to Bharathiar University.

iii. Guest lecturers working within Tamilnadu on consolidated pay. (It is mandatory that such candidates should produce NOC and service certificate from their respective colleges).

iv. Employees working in colleges affiliated to Universities other than Bharathiar University within Tamilnadu. (It is mandatory that such candidates should produce NOC and service certificate from their respective Heads of the Institution/University).

v. Teachers working in Higher Secondary School / High School / Middle School / Polytechnics (only arts and science subjects) within Tamil Nadu which are recognized / approved by the Government. (Such teachers shall register for part-time M. Phil., programme in a University Department or in a Research Department of Affiliated Colleges approved by the University or in a Research Institution approved by the University).

(e) A candidate registered for part time M. Phil., shall submit the certificate on his / her employment from the employer to the University every year through the research supervisor and the concerned Head of the Department till he completes the programme.

Transfer Certificate need not be insisted for admission to part-time M. Phil., / Ph. D., programmes.

Duration of Research Programme

Full-time

The duration of full – time M. Phil., programme shall extend over a period of one academic year (12 months).

Maximum period for completion (including extension period) of the M. Phil., programme shall be fixed as two years in the case of full-time scholars.

Part-time

The duration of part-time M. Phil., programme shall extend over a period of two academic years.

Maximum period for completion (including extension period) of the M. Phil., programme shall be fixed as three years in the case of part-time scholars.

Exemption

The women candidates and persons with disability (more than 40% disability) may be allowed a relaxation of one year for M. Phil., in the maximum duration. In addition, the women candidates may be provided Maternity Leave / Child Care Leave once in the entire duration of M. Phil., for up to 240 days.

A candidate applying for registration shall do so, specifying the broad field of research, which shall normally be one related to the field of specialization chosen in his/her PG degree.

The course of study for M.Phil. degree programme shall consist of three written papers under

Part-I and a Dissertation under Part-II of the programme.

Procedure for Admission : Bharathiar University PhD Admission 2023

The University shall notify in its website and through advertisement in the national / regional / local news papers calling applications towards admissions in to M. Phil., programme. The University shall admit candidates by a two stage process through an entrance test, called Common Eligibility Test (CET), and an interview. CET shall be conducted by the University during the month of June every year. The test will be conducted at the following centres: Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur, Ooty and Pollachi/Udumalpet.

Master’s Degree holders satisfying the qualification criteria stipulated under supra 2 above shall be eligible to appear for CET. However, the candidates who qualify in UGC-NET (including JRF) / UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF) / SLET / SET / GATE, scientists working in DRDO / Faculty of Air Force Administrative College, holders of teacher fellowship (like FIP and FDP) and candidates of foreign origin possessing prescribed qualifications shall be exempted from appearing for CET.

CET shall be of objective type with 50 multiple choice questions (MCQs) each with four options. Each question carries 1 mark. No negative marks for wrong answers. The maximum marks shall be 50 (50 x 1 = 50 marks). There shall be a passing minimum of 15 marks out of 50. The marks awarded in CET shall be valid for one academic year and shall be used to register for the M. Phil., programme.

Only the candidates who secured the passing minimum as mentioned above shall be called for interview after the scrutiny of his / her application for admission into M. Phil., programme. Interview shall be conducted at the University Departments or at the affiliated colleges of the University or at the research institutions approved by the University, where the candidate applies. The maximum marks for the interview shall be fixed as 15.

Criteria for Selection : Bharathiar University PhD Admission 2023

PG qualifying examination marks shall be converted to 50. A candidate who secures 25 marks out of 50 marks in the qualifying degree and secures an aggregate of 25 marks out of 50 marks comprising both CET and interview shall be declared qualified for admission into M. Phil., programme. In other words, a candidate who secures 50 marks out of 100 marks as detailed below shall be eligible for admission into M. Phil., programme.
