Eligibility for Doctoral and Master’s scholarships at the University of Otago is based on the following criteria:
a) Academic Performance: The applicant’s academic achievements will be considered. For doctoral scholarship applicants, Master’s degree grades and the quality of their thesis will be evaluated. If the thesis took longer than 2 full-time years to complete, an explanation may be requested. For those without a Master’s degree including a thesis, the grades of relevant advanced-level papers from their most applicable degree will be considered. If previous qualifications are from other universities, a GPA score will be calculated using the most relevant papers and grades, excluding Certificate of Proficiency and Pass/Fail papers.
b) Research Potential or Record: The applicant’s research potential or history will also be taken into account.
c) Recommendation from Head of Department: The advice, recommendation, and ranking provided by the relevant Head of Department will contribute to the selection process.
