University of Calcutta PhD Programme in Comparative Indian Language and Literature (CILL), 2023. Applications are invited for admission to the PhD programme in Comparative Indian Language and Literature, University of Calcutta.

University of Calcutta PhD Programme: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates having MA in Comparative Indian Language and Literature or any other allied literature discipline with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7- point scale (relaxation will be given as per norms) are eligible to apply.

Admission to the PhD programme will be done through a Research Eligibility Test (RET) followed by an interview. However candidates exempted from the RET are required to appear for the interview only.

Details about RET: University of Calcutta PhD Programme

The list of eligible candidates to appear in the Research Eligibility Test (RET) will be notified on 13th September, 2023 on the University of Calcutta website.

The RET will be held on 22nd September, 2023, Time: 1.30 pm, Duration: 2:30 hrs., Marks: 75 [The questions may be asked on Research Methodology, Comparative Literature and Indian Literature. It will include both multiple choice and short/long answer type questions].

The venue of the RET examination is the classroom of the Department of Comparative Indian Language and Literature, 5th Floor, Hardinge Building, Asutosh Shiksha Prangan (College Street Campus).

Research Eligibility Test (RET) Exemption

Candidates with MA in Comparative Indian Language and Literature/Comparative Literature/Comparative Indian Literature with MPhil or NET/GATE/SET/SLET are exempted from RET. All other candidates are required to appear for the RET.

Application Process and Fees: University of Calcutta PhD Programme

  1. Candidates should apply in the attached proforma along with an application fee of Rs. 100/- by online payment through SBI/Collect https://www.onlinesbi.sbi/sbicollect/icollecthome.htm, by clicking on Educational Institutions →Calcutta University→Miscellaneous Fee.
  2. All the filled in applications along with the scanned copies of the supporting documents should be sent to [email protected]
  3. Subject of the email should be, “PhD Application 2023”.
  4. Approximately a 1000 words long research proposal should be attached with this application form while sending it to the abovementioned email address.
  5. Payment receipt should be attached with the application form.
  6. ALL THE DOCUMENTS SHOULD BE SEND AS ONLY ONE SINGLE FILE AS PDF.
  7. The PhD application file in pdf should be named in the candidate’s name only.

Please note that no printed applications are required in this stage and applications received through email only will be accepted.

The last date of submitting the filled in applications with all the required documents is 11th September, 2023, latest by 11:59 pm.

Incomplete applications or applications received after due date and time will be summarily rejected.

Date of Interview: University of Calcutta PhD Programme

The list of successful candidates in RET will be published on 25th September, 2023 on the University of Calcutta website. Both RET qualified and RET exempted candidates are required to appear for the interview on the 3rd October, 2023 at the office of the Department of Comparative Indian Language and Literature, Room No 221, 1st Floor, Asutosh Building, University of Calcutta, 87/1 College Street, Kolkata 700073.

The entire admission process and all other matters related to the PhD Programme in the Department of CILL will be governed by the University of Calcutta, (Regulation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, PhD), Regulations 2016 and/or the time to time changes made by the concerned authority on the same.
