Research Eligibility Test (RET) 2023 for PhD Program

• Applications are invited from suitable candidates for admission in the Ph D program in Library and Information Science, University of Calcutta, for the session 2023-2024.

• Admissions will be made on the basis of a written test, of three hours (180 minutes) duration followed by an interview. Candidates with NET (JRF)/ NET (LS)/SET/SLET/M. Phil or equivalent examination would be exempted from the written examination, but must appear for an interview on the scheduled date.

• Applications are invited for admission to Ph. D program in the Department of Library & Information Science, University of Calcutta in the prescribed pro-forma (attached).

• An application fee of Rs. 100 is to be submitted online through SBI Collect (https://www.onlinesbi.com/sbicollect).

• The candidates should download the ‘application form’ from the university website for the admission test and interview, filled-up, signed properly and along with clearly scanned relevant documents (original) & SBI Payment receipt are to be sent in a single PDF to the e-mail address: [email protected]

• The last date of submission of application form is 5th October, 2023 (4:00 PM)

• No application will be entertained received after 5th October, 2023 (4:00 PM)

• All Applications will be listed up in University Website on 6th October, 2023

• The number of candidates who may be selected if found suitable, is not more than eleven (11), including reservations as per Government rule for 2023-2024

• Reservation of SC/ST/PH/OBC-A & OBC-B etc will be as per 100 points roster applicable as per the rules of the West Bengal Higher Education Institutions (reservation in admission) rules, 2013.

• Date and time of Written Test – 9th October, 2023 at 12:00 Noon. (From 12:00 PM-3:00 PM)

• Written test will be held on the following basis:

1st paper – General Studies (MCQ); 50 Questions (100 Marks)

2nd Paper – Library & Information Science (MCQ); 100 Questions (200 Marks)

Total Duration: 180 minutes [+2 for correct answer; 0 for incorrect answer]

• Candidates must obtain qualifying marks in each paper (General – 60% marks, OBC-A & OBC-B – 54% marks and SC/ST/PH – 45% marks) to qualify for interview.

• The result of written test and list of qualified candidates for interview will be put up on the notice board of the department and in the university website subsequently on 11th October, 2023.

• The interview of the candidates comprised of applicants with NET (JRF)/ NET (LS)/SET/SLET/M. Phil or equivalent examination and qualified candidates in the written test will be held on 12th & 13th October, 2023 from 12 Noon in the Department.

• The final selection and allocation of supervisor will be on the basis of this interview.

• The list of qualified candidates for the enrolment to the PhD program for the session 2023-24 will be published on the Departmental Notice Board and in the university website subsequently in 1st week of November, 2023 (tentative).

• Qualifying the RET will not anyway ensure any form of fellowship from the University.
