Raiganj University, established on February 3, 2015, is a leading educational institution in West Bengal, aiming to meet the higher education needs of North Bengal’s residents.
It inherits a legacy of 70 years from Raiganj College (University College), founded in 1948. Located in Uttar Dinajpur, a economically challenged district, the university serves marginalized communities, where over 70% of the population relies on agriculture.

Eligibility: Raiganj University Ph.D. Admission 2023-24
Eligibility criteria for admission to the Ph.D. Programme: Subject to the conditions stipulated in the Regulations, the following candidates are eligible to seek admission to the Ph.D. programme:
- Master’s Degree holders satisfying the criteria stipulated as under-
- Candidates who have completed/ waiting for the Final Semester result for M.Phil. from this university with at least 55% marks in aggregate, or an equivalent grade on the point scale of the grading system followed by the university, shall be eligible to proceed to do research work leading to Ph. D. Degree. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to the SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the University Grants Commission or other statutory bodies from time to time.
- A candidate whose M.Phil. dissertation has been evaluated and the viva voce is pending under any Department / Centre or Research Programme of the university, may be provisionally admitted to the Ph.D. programme of the university but the admission will be confirmed if the candidate qualifies in the M.Phil. Degree with the requisite percentage of marks / grade.
- Candidates possessing a degree considered equivalent to the M.Phil. degree of other Indian Institutions, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme.
- Candidates from abroad may join the Ph.D. programme. Before joining the programme the candidates must comply the norm to pass under the 10+ 2+ 3+ 2 system and the degrees must be recognised by the UGC to get admission. They are further required to obtain clearance from the Government of India and / or other appropriate authorities, Government of India for studying in India.
- The candidate is not currently admitted as a student in any full-time course of studies or registered for doing Ph.D. in any other university Candidates having Master Degree in related discipline may apply.

PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION: Raiganj University Ph.D. Admission 2023-24
- For filling up the Application Form please visit the online portal of the website of Raiganj University: www.raiganjuniversity.ac.in.
- A candidate requires to make an online payment of a requisite fee for admission to Ph.D. Programme through online at the admission portal of Raiganj University as under-
- All the candidates who have not qualified in JRF/ NET/ SET/ GATE/ MPhil shall be admitted through an Entrance Test followed by an interview. The entrance test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject specific. If there are more than one candidate obtained same marks in the Entrance Examinations then the marks obtained in the other Public Examinations (PG- UG- HS- Madhyamik or equivalent examinations) will be taken into consideration.
- The entrance test will be conducted to assess the fundamental knowledge of the candidate. The candidates must score a minimum 50% (45% for SC/ ST and Differently abled candidates) to be declared as qualified for the Written Admission Test. The successful candidates will be called for the interview where the applicant is required to submit a brief outline of the research proposal.
- The candidates who have qualified in JRF/ NET/ SET/ GATE/ MPhil shall be exempted from the Written Entrance Test. However they are required to appear in the Interview.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR Ph.D. ASPIRANTS : Raiganj University Ph.D. Admission 2023-24
- Qualified M.Phil. student (who have completed 2 yrs. M.Phil. Degree from any Indian Recognised University) may be exempted from the Coursework if he/ she qualifies the Ph.D. Entrance Examinations. Such candidates are required to upload the M.Phil. Certificate.
- The applicants who have already completed the Coursework from any Recognized University in India are exempted from the Coursework if he/ she qualified the Ph.D. Entrance Examinations. Such candidates are required to upload the Coursework Certificate.
- The international students must require completing the Coursework at Raiganj University before submitting the Synopsis for Registration unless otherwise allowed.
- A candidate requires to complete the M.Phil./Ph.D. Coursework for six months complying with the minimum attendance norms as per the UGC Minimum Regulation, 2016 before applying for the Ph.D. Admission.
- The applicants who have cleared NET- JRF, NET, SLET/ SET, GATE are exempted from the Written Entrance Test for the admission to Ph.D. Programme. However, they are required to appear in the Viva Voce to be conducted by the University. They are to pursue the Ph.D. Coursework if they are selected unless they have M.Phil. or Ph.D. Coursework done from a recognized University or they have opted.
- The applicants who have completed the M.Phil. from a recognized university are exempted from the written entrance test however; they are required to appear in the Viva Voce to be conducted by the University. Kindly note that the applicants who are pursuing the M.Phil. at Raiganj University and submitted their M.Phil. Dissertation will fall under this category. The applicants with M.Phil. are exempted from the Ph.D. Coursework (if they so opt).
- The applicants with Ph.D. Coursework, from a recognized University, if they qualify for the Ph.D. Entrance Test conducted by the Raiganj University are exempted from Ph. D. Course Work. However, they are required to appear in the Written Entrance Test (unless they have NET- JRF, NET, SLET/ SET, GATE or M.Phil.) followed by the Viva Voce to be conducted by the University.

Important instruction for the UGC- (NET) JRF qualified candidates for admission to Ph.D.
- The applicants who cleared UGC-NET (JRF) and other UGC-Research Fellowships etc. will be given preference in admission in Ph.D. subject to the approval of concerned Ph.D. committee.
- JRF candidates have to apply through online and they will be called for personal interview, if required at the concerned Department. Their admission to Ph.D. will be confirmed after the approval of the Ph.D. Committee.
- JRF candidate who have already taken admission in different Departments of Raiganj University requires to fill the Online Application Form for attending the Coursework. However, the applicants exempted from Coursework, need not to apply.
