Both full-time and part-time study programs are eligible.

Academic Criteria: President’s PhD Scholarships 2024

Candidates should meet one of the following criteria:

  • Hold or be on track to receive a first-class or equivalent undergraduate or integrated Master’s degree.
  • Hold or be on track to receive a distinction in a standalone Master’s qualification.

This allows candidates who have excelled at the Master’s level, even if they did not achieve a first-class undergraduate degree, to apply for the scholarship. However, candidates with only a single undergraduate degree or an integrated Master’s must still be in receipt of, or on track to receive, a first-class or equivalent qualification.

Other Criteria:
  • Applications are welcome from talented individuals from Imperial College London, the UK, and worldwide, with no nationality restrictions. However, some departments may be unable to support international candidates.
  • The scholarship is only available for new PhD applications. Current registered Imperial PhD students are not eligible for consideration.

How to Apply: President’s PhD Scholarships 2024

Before applying for the President’s PhD Scholarship, you must first establish contact with a supervisor in an academic department at Imperial College London who has agreed to oversee your research project. Please note that supervisors can only oversee one scholar at a time, so check the list of unavailable supervisors for the scholarship program.

The application process does not require a specific scholarship application form. Instead, follow these steps:

  1. Submit your application for admission to study at Imperial through the online admissions system.
  2. Your department will nominate you for the scholarship based on academic merit and potential.
  3. During the application process, provide a 2-page document:
    • The first page should be a personal statement outlining your motivations for applying to Imperial and the scholarship, along with any other supporting information that enhances your application.
    • The second page should contain your research proposal. You may submit updated versions of this statement if required after application submission if your department shortlists you for the scholarship.
  4. When prompted for the names of two academic referees, provide individuals who can offer an academic reference in support of your application (e.g., your personal tutor or thesis supervisor), excluding your proposed PhD supervisor. Encourage your referees to use ‘they/them’ language rather than gender pronouns.
  5. To be considered for the President’s PhD Scholarship, select this option in the funding section of the additional questions tab within the online application form.
