Independence Day 2023: India is celebrating its 77th Independence Day (Swatantrata Diwas) on Tuesday, 15 August. We got our freedom from the centuries’ old shackles of Britishers after the sacrifice of countless brave lives and non-stop efforts of our heroes.

By noon on Tuesday, more than 88 million selfies of individuals across the nation, proudly holding the national flag, have been shared on the central government’s Har Ghar Tiranga website. This endeavor is a component of a three-day campaign launched following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent rallying cry. Dubbed as ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’, the campaign encourages citizens to exhibit the Indian flag at their residences from August 13 to 15, commemorating the 77th Independence Day.
The Har Ghar Tiranga website’s landing page provides users with two options for contributing their selfies: one featuring the physical flag and another portraying a digital rendition of the tricolor. The website prominently presents that by 12 noon on Tuesday, a remarkable count of 88,121,591 (88 million) selfies, proudly showcasing the flag, had been submitted. Noteworthy personalities such as Union ministers, actors, and sports icons are also featured on the site, displaying their allegiance alongside the Indian flag. These include notable figures like Union Home Minister Amit Shah, former cricketer Parthiv Patel, actor Anupam Kher, and singer Kailash Kher, among others.
PM Modi launched the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign on July 22 last year, as an integral part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav‘ celebrations, marking India’s 75 years of independence. In a recent social media update, PM Modi urged people to switch their profile pictures across various social platforms to the Tricolor, embracing the campaign’s essence. Demonstrating his support, PM Modi himself updated his profile pictures with the national flag.
As part of a comprehensive series of events scheduled for the week, union ministers enthusiastically engaged in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga‘ bike rally held in Delhi’s Pragati Maidan locality. This rally, marking the campaign’s second edition, was inaugurated by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar. Rally participants embarked on a journey along Mathura Road, Bhairon Road, India Gate, and the Pragati Maidan tunnel, all the while chanting spirited slogans like ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai‘. Ministers Kishan Reddy and Anurag Thakur were at the forefront of the rally, leading on a bike, with Thakur prominently carrying the Indian flag. Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje, hailing from Karnataka, also actively participated in the bike rally.

PM Modi to deliver 10th consecutive Independence Day address
Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day speech at Red Fort on August 15 said that the government plans to launch Vishwakarma scheme with an outlay of Rs. 13,000 to Rs 15,000 crores for the traditional skilled workers.
Speaking about corruption, he said, “Corruption had stopped the development of India.”
The PM also noted the cycle of violence, incidents of atrocities against women in Manipur and assured that India was with people of State. He further added, “Slowly peace is restoring in the state. The Centre and State Government will continue to work to restore peace.”
