At Auburn University, we understand the significance of receiving a quality education, and we are committed to assisting you in achieving your higher education aspirations. Each year, the Office of University Scholarships grants numerous scholarships, and our various colleges also offer departmental scholarships to both new and current students.
FAFSA Changes
The Department of Education has announced substantial alterations to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2024-2025 academic year. Consequently, there will be a known delay in the availability of the FAFSA, shifting from October to December 2023.
In light of this, Auburn University is adjusting its timeline for reviewing and notifying students about need-based financial aid, including scholarships, for the 2023-2024 academic year.
For the 2024-2025 academic year, the scholarship application deadline will be extended to February 15. However, for the subsequent academic year, 2025-2026, the deadline will return to February 1.

Understand that searching for scholarships and navigating the application process can be a challenging task. At Auburn University, we’ve made it simpler than ever with the Auburn University Scholarship Opportunity Manager (AUSOM).
Through AUSOM, you can effortlessly explore the scholarships that you may qualify for, complete scholarship applications, accept your awarded scholarships, and access other helpful features.
It’s important to note that students need to complete the AUSOM application only once per academic year.
They are designed AUSOM to streamline the scholarship application process, making it more convenient for you to access the financial support you need to pursue your education at Auburn University.
Dates and Deadlines: Auburn University Scholarship 2023
To ensure maximum consideration, it is imperative students are knowledgeable of the specific deadlines associated with all scholarships awarded. Scholarships will be awarded to first-year students November to late March and to transfer and current students in late March.
Students selected to receive a scholarship will be notified by email to their Auburn email account. First-year students awarded a competitive merit scholarship will also receive notification by postal mail to their permanent address.

* The FAFSA is the only form a student is required to complete to be considered for student assistance from any of the Title IV, HEA programs except for information needed to ensure the student’s eligibility for such assistance (e.g., information needed to complete verification or to demonstrate compliance with the student eligibility provisions of the HEA and the regulations). Additional information, if requested, will be listed on the student’s AU Access My Finances page after we receive the results of the FAFSA. Undergraduate Scholarships
This is a comprehensive list of all scholarships awarded by Auburn University.
Deadline: This is the date by which you should complete the General Application, any Supplemental Applications, or any individual scholarship applications to receive consideration.
Award: The amount stated is for general information purposes and not a guarantee of what you may receive if awarded. Actual award amounts can vary based on recipient eligibility, available funds, and other factors.
Actions: Upon completion of the General Application and any Supplemental Applications, you will be automatched with scholarships for which you meet the criteria. These scholarships indicate “None” under “Action” and require no additional information from you for consideration. A limited number of scholarships indicate “Apply” under “Action” and require individual applications for consideration. A list of these scholarships can be found by viewing Recommended Opportunities from the Opportunities tab.
Graduate Tuition Fellowship System
The Graduate Tuition Fellowship System (GTUFS) provides Auburn University graduate students with a record of their Graduate Assistantship and Tuition Fellowship Program (tuition waiver).
GTUFS shows students the number of hours taken toward their degree as of the current semester, the number of hours allowed under the tuition waiver, and the number of tuition hours remaining to be covered by the waiver.
In order to access GTUFS:
- Log-In to AU Access
- Click-on the Student Menu option of the My Academics tab.
- On the “Student” tab, click Graduate Tuition Fellowship System (GTUFS).

How do students receive scholarship consideration?
First-year students accepted for admission by mid-January receive automatic consideration for competitive merit scholarships. First-year students and transfer students accepted for admission by mid-January receive automatic consideration for select-need based scholarships. A scholarship application is not required.
First-year students and transfer students accepted for admission by mid-January and current Auburn students can apply for consideration of other institutional scholarships, including general and departmental scholarships, by completing the Auburn University Scholarship Opportunity Manager (AUSOM) application within AU Access by the deadline. Students are only required to complete the AUSOM application once each academic year.
How do students log into AUSOM?
AUSOM can be found within AU Access on Admitted Students for incoming students and on My Finances for incoming students who have submitted the confirmation deposit and current students. Students use their AU Access User Name and Password to log in. The User Name is provided in the acceptance for admission letter for incoming students, and account activation is required prior to login.
An error message is received when logging into AUSOM through AU Access. Why is AUSOM inaccessible?
When accessing AUSOM through secure home, office, or school networks, a firewall may block or prevent access. It may be helpful to access AUSOM through a network or computer in another location.
What is the deadline to submit a scholarship application?
Students are encouraged to review Scholarship Dates & Deadlines to ensure maximum scholarship consideration. First-year students accepted for admission by mid-January receive consideration for first-year student scholarships. A scholarship application is not required for competitive merit scholarships.
February 15 is the scholarship deadline. Incoming and current Auburn students must complete the scholarship application through AUSOM to receive general and departmental scholarship consideration.
Transfer students accepted to the Nursing professional program as well as current Auburn students accepted to the Nursing or Veterinary Medicine professional program or enrolled in the Pharmacy professional program must complete the scholarship application through AUSOM by June 1 to receive departmental scholarship consideration.
Which scholarship application questions should students complete?
In addition to completing the required fields, students are encouraged to complete the application to the fullest extent to maximize scholarship consideration. More information can be found on Scholarship Consideration on AUSOM.
Can a student receive more than one scholarship?
As a general practice, students are ineligible to receive more than one competitive merit scholarship and typically do not receive more than one general scholarship.
Students may receive a combination of competitive merit, select need-based, general, and departmental scholarships, provided the total amount awarded in institutional scholarships does not exceed Auburn’s annual estimated cost of attendance.
External scholarships do not contribute to this total, and Auburn University does not limit external scholarships by number or amount. However, any amount received in scholarships may affect the amount of federal financial aid for which students are eligible. Individual scholarships awarded by other internal or external sources may have restrictions which require them to be awarded or disbursed at a lesser amount.
