How to Apply: Jamshedpur Women’s University Admission PhD

- To fill online application form, click on the link “JWURET 2023” to register for the programme and create password for the application process. Do not share the password with anyone.
- Eligible candidates must complete and submit the application form online only through link available on the University website www.jwu.ac.in Pay application fee of Rs. 1500/- (General/OBC candidates) and Rs. 1200/- (SC/ST Candidates) through HDFC Bank payment Gateway (candidates may use Net Banking/ Debit card/ Credit card/UPI of any nationalized bank) till the last date of application process. Fees once remitted shall not be refunded under any circumstances.
- The steps to apply online are as follows:
- Visit the Institute website www.jwu.ac.in
- Tap “JWURET2023”
- Register by providing the email id and contact number.
- Login credentials will be sent through mail/SMS.
- Fill the required personal details.
- Enter academic information.
- Upload scanned photograph and signature.
- Click on the submit button.
- Pay the application fee through Net Banking/Debit/Credit Card/UPI.
- Take a print out of the submitted application form for future reference.
Important Instructions:
- Candidates should proceed to fill the Online Application Form only they satisfy themselves that they fulfill all the eligibility criteria.

- Apply for one department/subject only. If applying for more than one subject, submit the online form separately with new email id and deposit the requisite fee also.
- The Department-wise list of candidates shortlisted for Entrance Test along with guidelines will be displayed on the University website.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission to Ph.D. Programme:
The following are eligible to seek admission to the Ph.D. programme:
Candidates who have completed:
- Only Women candidates are eligible for admission to the Ph.D. Program.
- A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited byan assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
3. Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non- creamy layer)/Differently-abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
4. Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
5. A person whose M.Phil. dissertation has been evaluated and viva-voce is pending may be admitted to the Ph.D. program provisionally.
6. Candidate who has cleared the Ph.D. course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) from any central/ state/ deemed to be University/ autonomous college of India would be eligible for admission in further Ph.D. work, provided that she submits NOC from her respective institution and the valid period of entire Ph.D. work is not over.
7. Other existing rules and regulations of the University for admission shall be applicable for the course also.
Exemption from entrance test (Test A & Test B):
The following candidates will be exempted from the entrance Test:
- Candidates who have qualified for UGC/CSIR/JRF Fellowships OR qualified for Lectureship through UGC/CSIR NET Examination/J-SLET.
- Candidate who have completed M.Phil. Course, provided their M.Phil. Course was through an Entrance Examination.
- The above Candidates will however have to fill the application form and must face the interview/viva voce (Test C).

Selection Procedures:
Selection in the Ph.D. programme shall be based on the performance in the Entrance Test (JWURET-2023), Previous academic record and an Interview.
Admission to Ph.D. Programme will be a two stages Process:
- Ph.D. Entrance Test (JWURET-2023)and
- Interview/Vive-Voce.
JWURET will consist of three sections:
Test-A : Assessment of Logical and Analytical Capability : – This test would be common across Faculties and will be treated as preliminary screening test so that only those candidates who qualify the Test –A would be eligible to be considered further. This test will have a total of 50 MCQs and the duration of exam will be of one hour. Each question carries 2 marks. There will be no minus marking for wrong answer.
Test- B: Assessment of Subject Knowledge and Research Methodology : This test will have a total of 70 MCQs and the duration of exam will be of one and half hour. Each Question carries 2 marks. There will be no minus marking for wrong answer.
Test- C: Interview/Viva Voce. (For detail of Interview/Viva Voce Procedure Kindly refer Jamshedpur Women’s University (Minimum standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree Regulations : 2022).
Among those who obtain the qualifying marks at Test –B as mentioned in (sub clause no. 5.2.1) of this regulation, names of 3 times the number of JWURET seats available in the discipline will be shortlisted for Test-C of the selection process to be conducted by the concerned department. These names will be selected strictly on the basis of merit in Test- B, without any consideration of marks obtained in the Test- A. All eligible JWURET-exempt category candidates shall also take Test- C of the selection process.
The Test- C will be conducted in the concerned department by a Board duly appointed by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor. This board will consist of all member from Research Advisory Committee of concerned department & will be chaired by HOD. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor shall appoint a ‘Member Observer’ from any other department from the same faculty. The Interview/Viva Voce will carry a total of 60 marks for its two components, viz., writing a one page research proposal (40 marks) followed by personal interview (20 marks).
(Note: – 5.2.1 A candidate must secure at least 50% of marks. 5 % relaxation is available for SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer), EWS and Differently-abled candidates.
