The schedule for the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 has been unveiled, and this prestigious tournament is slated to be held in Sri Lanka from January 13th to February 4th.

The 15th edition of the competition will feature a total of sixteen teams, and there are noteworthy adjustments in the tournament format.

This marks the third occasion that Sri Lanka has been chosen as the host nation for the event, the previous instance being in 2006.

The tournament’s inauguration will witness Sri Lanka facing off against Zimbabwe on January 13th. As for the reigning champions, India, who claimed victory in the 2022 edition held in the West Indies, they will embark on their journey in this edition by taking on the 2020 champions, Bangladesh, on the following day.

Format changed

There have been notable alterations in the format for the upcoming edition of the tournament compared to the previous one. In the new format, the sixteen participating teams will be divided into four groups, with each group comprising four teams.

However, a significant change is that the top three teams from each group will now advance to the Super Six stage.

The group stage matches are scheduled to be held from January 13th to 21st.

Additionally, the fourth-placed teams in each group will compete in one more match against another fourth-placed team before concluding their tournament.

Road to the Final

Following the conclusion of the group stage, the tournament will progress to the next phase, known as the Super Six stage. In this revamped format, two groups will be created, each comprising six teams.

Group A will consist of the top three teams from Groups A and D, while Group B will include the top three teams from Groups B and C.

During the Super Six stage, every team will have the opportunity to play two matches. The match-ups will be determined based on the positions each team held in the initial group stage.

For instance, the top team in Group A (referred to as A1) will compete against the second and third teams from Group D (D2 and D3), while A2 will face off against D1 and D3, and so on.

The top two teams from each Super Six group will secure their spots in the semi-finals. The winners of these semi-final matches will then advance to the ultimate showdown, the Final, scheduled to take place at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on Sunday, February 4th.

To prepare for this highly anticipated competition, warm-up matches have been scheduled from January 6th to 12th. This will allow teams to fine-tune their skills and strategies before the main event kicks off.
