About Bharathidasan University
Bharathidasan University, established in February 1982, is named after the renowned Tamil poet Bharathidasan. The university’s motto, “We will create a brave new world,” reflects its commitment to academic innovation for social change.
Originally located in Palkalaiperur on a sprawling 1000-acre campus, portions of the land were later allocated to Anna University of Technology and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Tiruchirappalli.
The university also has a downtown campus at Khajamalai, which initially housed the Autonomous Post-Graduate Centre of the University of Madras.
The main Palkalaiperur Campus houses the administrative complex, academic departments, and research laboratories. It encompasses various schools, including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, Geosciences, Social Sciences, Marine Sciences, and Languages.
The campus features essential facilities such as the Central Library, University Informatics Centre, hostels, staff quarters, health center, and canteen.
The downtown campus is home to departments such as Social Work, Computer Science, the Centre for Remote Sensing, and the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre.
Bharathidasan University comprises four faculties, sixteen schools, thirty-seven departments, and twenty-nine specialized research centers. With a faculty strength of 263 members, the university caters to 2564 students and scholars.
It offers a total of 151 programs, including forty postgraduate programs (M.A., M.Sc., and M.Tech.) following the Choice Based Credit System.
Additionally, the university offers programs in M.Phil., Ph.D., postgraduate diplomas, diplomas, and certificates. The supporting staff of the university consists of 457 members.
In addition to regular programs, Bharathidasan University conducts distance education programs, offering fifteen undergraduate and twenty-six postgraduate programs.
The undergraduate and postgraduate programs follow a non-semester system, while the MCA and MBA programs operate on a semester system and are particularly popular.

Research is one of the strongest components of Bharathidasan University and it offers various research programmes in different branches of Science, Humanities, Management and Engineering leading to award of Ph.D. degree.
Faculty members are actively pursuing interdisciplinary and socially relevant research in thrust areas with state–of–the–art equipments in addition to teaching, consultancy and extension activities.
Directorate of Research is offering admission to Ph.D. programme around the year. Around 1,000 candidates including foreign students are registering for Ph.D. programme every year via full-time or part-time mode. Around 2000 teaching staff / experts are recognized as research supervisors.
In order to further enhance the research activities and to become a global competitor in research, meritorious and talented youth with PG degree are attracted by “University Research Fellowship.”
Directorate of Research is focusing fully on e-Governance to speed up the process; online process for Ph.D. entrance examination, application for Ph.D. admission, fees collection, submission of soft copy of Synopsis and Thesis, information / status of Ph.D. program needed by research scholars/supervisors is being performed.
It is also providing a platform for the faculty members to interact with other experts in their area of specialization within India and abroad which provide an opportunity to understand the research quality of this University and also pave way for scientific collaboration.

- To facilitate research scholars into leading researchers in their field of science, humanities, management and engineering
