Bangladesh Squad for CWC23: Senior player misses out

Bangladesh Squad for CWC23: Senior player misses out as Bangladesh reveal CWC23 squad.

In a surprising turn of events, Bangladesh has unveiled its 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, and one notable absence is the veteran batter, Tamim Iqbal. Despite recently reversing his ODI retirement earlier in the year, Tamim will not be representing Bangladesh in the tournament.

The newly-appointed captain, Shakib Al Hasan, will continue to lead the squad, while Najmul Hossain Shanto has been promoted to the position of vice-captain. This reshuffling of leadership roles has created some buzz in the cricketing world.

Tamim’s exclusion from the squad is the major headline here. The experienced opener had initially announced his decision to step down as the captain of the Bangladesh ODI team due to a back injury that had ruled him out of the Asia Cup 2023.

However, he managed to regain his fitness in time for the World Cup, raising hopes among fans of his potential return. Unfortunately, those hopes have been dashed with his omission from the squad.

Another significant setback for Bangladesh is the unavailability of pacer Ebadot Hossain, who has failed to recover from a knee injury sustained during the ODI series against Afghanistan in July. Despite undergoing knee surgery on 30 August, he won’t be able to represent his country in this prestigious tournament.

Despite these setbacks, Bangladesh’s batting lineup boasts the experience of players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Litton Das, and skipper Shakib Al Hasan himself.

The team’s strength lies in its spin bowling, featuring a formidable group of finger spinners, including Shakib, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nasum Ahmed, and Mahedi Hasan. Several of these spinners are also versatile all-rounders, adding depth to the squad.

On the pace front, although Ebadot is unavailable, Bangladesh still possesses the skills to trouble opposing batsmen. Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman are expected to lead the pace attack, with support from Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud, and Tanzim Hasan.
