The idea of restoring the Far Eastern Games was proposed at the London 1948 Summer Olympics, leading to the formation of the Asian Athletic Federation. On February 13, 1949, the Asian Athletic Federation was officially inaugurated in New Delhi, with the inaugural Asian Games scheduled to be held in 1950.
