Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the new parliament building on Sunday.

The grand event will commence with a morning havan, where the revered high priests of the Shaivite order will present PM Modi with the ceremonial sceptre, Sengol.

A noteworthy feature of the new four-storey triangular-shaped building is its impressive built-up area of 64,500 square meters.

It boasts three main gates known as Gyan Dwar, Shakti Dwar, and Karma Dwar.

The inauguration of the new Parliament building will commence on Sunday with an early morning havan and a multi-religion prayer.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will then proceed to formally open the Lok Sabha chamber.

The present building of the Parliament was completed in 1927 and is now 96 years old. Over the years, the old building was found to be inadequate for present-day requirements.
