Ireland Women have announced their 15-player squad for the upcoming white-ball series in Spain, scheduled to take place from October 17th to 24th.
This historic series against Scotland includes three ODIs and two T20Is. Notably, these ODIs mark Scotland's first official matches in this format since gaining ODI status in 2022.
All matches will be hosted at Deserts Springs in Spain, with the ODIs set for October 17th, 19th, and 21st, followed by the two T20Is on October 23rd and 24th.
Ed Joyce, the Head Coach of Ireland Women, expressed the importance of this series, considering the two-month gap since their last international match, following a busy international summer that included tours and a home series against Australia.
He highlighted the significance of building towards 2024, a year featuring the T20 World Cup, for which Ireland Women aim to qualify.
oyce also noted the blend of experience and emerging talent in the squad. While the team features experienced players, it also offers opportunities for young talents to gain valuable experience in international touring.
Joanna Loughran, a wicketkeeper-batter from Leinster Cricket Club, earned her first senior squad call-up.
She was part of the Ireland Under-19s Women’s squad that participated in the ICC Under-19 Women’s Cricket World Cup in South Africa in February and has had a breakthrough year in 2023, including making her debut in the Evoke Super Series.
Alana Dalzell, a seam bowling all-rounder from Bready, returns to the senior squad after her debut match for Ireland against South Africa last year.
Freya Sargent, a 17-year-old from Clontarf, impressed coaches and selectors during the recent series against the Netherlands with her consistent performance and game awareness.
