Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2023

"Uthani Ekadashi," also known as "Prabhodini Ekadashi," "Guruvayur Ekadashi," or "Karthiki Ekadashi," occurs during the Shukla Paksha (bright lunar fortnight) of the holy Karthika month in the Hindu lunar calendar.

On this day, devotees of Lord Krishna observe a fast to seek his blessings.

The observance involves worshipping Lord Krishna through chanting his holy names and singing devotional songs (bhajans).

In 2023, this auspicious occasion is on November 23, Thursday

Dev Uthani Ekadashi is observed in close proximity to the grand celebration of Tulsi Vivah, where Tulsi Devi is spiritually wedded to the Lord.

Before the worship of Tulsi Devi and her ceremonial union with the Lord, devotees commemorate Dev Uthani Ekadashi.

Special rituals, including an abhishek (ritual bathing) and chanting the 108 names of the Lord, are performed on the deities of Krishna and Vishnu on this day.

Various rituals mark the day, including sanctifying the place of worship with Ganga Jal (holy water from the Ganges river).

The night before Ekadashi, minimal and simple (satvik) food items, excluding rice, are offered to the Lord.

Some individuals observe a complete fast on Ekadashi, while others tailor their observances based on their capabilities.
