Chris Jones Makes Surprise Appearance at Chiefs Game, Watching from Suite

Chris Jones, who has been embroiled in an offseason-long holdout, made an appearance at the Kansas City Chiefs' game on Thursday

but as an observer from a suite, rather than taking the field with his teammates against the Detroit Lions in the NFL Kickoff Game. NFL Network's James Palmer reported this development.

Due to his ongoing contract dispute, Jones was officially listed as inactive for the game but chose to witness it in person.

Earlier on Thursday, there had been indications that Jones might attend the game

and the Chiefs were open to having the four-time Pro Bowler in the stadium, particularly for the unveiling of the team's Super Bowl LVII banner.

Jones, 29, has been seeking a contract extension as he enters the final season of his current deal. His absence from practices extended into the first game of the 2023 season.

In the days leading up to the game, Jones had been in close proximity to his teammates. He participated in the Chiefs' annual "Red Wednesday" charity event at the Ronald McDonald House in Kansas City.

Regarding his contract holdout, Jones mentioned on Wednesday, "I can't really talk about it. Hopefully, it gets worked out.

It's always been my goal to be a Kansas City Chief for life. I've said that multiple times on social media platforms

from interviews, and they know where my position is at. Hopefully, we can get something worked out for the long term."

For the time being, Jones found himself in a spectator's role at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday, surrounded by fans who undoubtedly hope to see him back on the field soon.

The Chiefs are set to hit the road for a Week 2 matchup against Jacksonville, and it remains uncertain whether Jones will be traveling with the team to play or not.
