NBC News’ Antonia Hylton opens up about rare cancer diagnosis

Antonia Hylton, a correspondent for NBC News, recently revealed her diagnosis with a rare type of cancer called a neuroendocrine tumor.

The symptoms started about two years ago, with stomach issues attributed initially to her hectic travel schedule and less-than-ideal diet.

Despite the challenges, she remained committed to her work.

A wake-up call occurred during a Today show segment about Craig Melvin's brother's death from colon cancer, coupled with a TikTok video featuring a young woman diagnosed with colon cancer at 24.

As her symptoms worsened, including facial swelling and bowel movement difficulties, she consulted a specialist.

A subsequent colonoscopy identified a polyp as a neuroendocrine tumor, a rare cancer type releasing hormones into the bloodstream.

Panicked, she underwent procedures to remove tissue and screening tests to assess cancer spread.

Fortunately, early detection allowed successful intervention, and the latest scan confirmed her current cancer-free status.

This experience brought a new perspective, stressing the importance of prioritizing health and not dismissing concerning symptoms.
