Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit Ph.D Admission. Applications in the prescribed format are invited through Online Registration from eligible candidates for admission to the Ph.D programme 2022.
All candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. programmes are required to register online. The programme is offered under regular mode in strict compliance of the University Regulations governing PhD programmes as notified or amended from time to time.

Candidates who possess P.G. Degree of this University in the disciplines concerned or related disciplines with B+ Grade and above or a P.G. Degree of other Universities recognized by this University with a grade equivalent to 55% as stipulated by UGC Regulations 2016 (as amended from time to time) are eligible to apply for admission to the Ph.D programme.
Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, according or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme.
Applicants form SC and ST communities, OBC (non-creamy layer), persons with disability and gender non-confirming persons (GNCP) require a minimum of B Grade of this University or equivalent to 50% as stipulated by UGC if they are from other universities in their P.G. examinations to apply for admission to the Ph.D Programme.
In the case of Ayurveda, the candidate should possess P.G. Degree in Ayurveda from a recognized University approved by C.C.I.M. (Central Council of Indian Medicine).
Related subjects can be any discipline having some converging areas of study with the domain subject offered by the concerned department. Applicants who have obtained their P.G. degrees in related subjects can be granted admission only if their research is of an interdisciplinary nature. The Research Committees of the concerned Departments shall ensure this by properly evaluating the research proposals and interviewing the candidate.
Admission to the PhD programme shall be through an Entrance Examination and an interview conducted by the concerned Academic Departments. The interview shall be conducted by the Research Committees of the Department. UGC –JRF, other National fellowship awardees and regular teachers of Universities/Colleges with a minimum service of five years and who have published at least two research articles in UGC care-listed/peer reviewed Journals are exempted from the Entrance Examination. Availability of approved supervisors, their willingness to guide on a specific research proposals and vacancy of seats shall be taken into account for granting admission. The applicants are encouraged to discuss their research proposal with the probable research supervisors. However, the admission will be purely based on entrance examination and interview procedures. Admission to the Ph.D programme shall be provided only on the basis of vacancies appraised by Heads of the Departments after consultation with the research supervisors in the department. Applicants will be eligible for reservation as per the Ph.D Regulation of the University.
The Entrance Examination shall carry 100 marks and the question papers have to be provided by the respective Heads of the Departments. Based on the performance of the candidates in the entrance examination, a list of qualified candidates will be prepared for each department. The candidate who secure 50% marks or above in the entrance examination alone will be qualified. Relaxation of 5% of marks (from 50% to 45%) shall be allowed for the candidates belonging of SC/ST/OBC (Non Creamy Layer) / differently-abled categories 1 GNPC in the entrance examination conducted by the Universities. If in spite of the above relaxation the seats allotted for SC/ST remain unfilled, the Universities shall launch special admission drive, for that particular category within one month from the date of closure of admissions of general category.
The University will device its own admission procedure along with eligible conditions to ensure that most of the seats under these categories are filled.
The candidates who are qualified in the written entrance examination shall be interviewed by the Research Committee of the Department. Interview shall be based on the preliminary research proposal presented by the candidates. The tentative research proposal should indicate a tentative title, objectives of the study, importance and relevance of the study, review of earlier work done in the proposed area of research, details of methodology/theoretical or conceptual framework, research questions and select bibliography The Research Committee may select the required number of candidates after ensuring the feasibility and quality of the research proposals, submitted and presented.
Candidates qualified in the Common Entrance Examination, JRF holders and teaching faculties shall submit a copy of the research proposal as mentioned above before the Head of the Department on or before 23.11.2022
The number of candidates to be admitted to the PhD programme in a year shall be decided by the Research Committees of each Department. It shall be decided on the basis of the number of vacancies available under the approved Research Supervisors of the Department and the expertise and willingness of supervisors to supervise specific research proposals submitted by the candidates.
Assignment of Research Supervisors
The Research Supervisor shall be assigned by the Research Committee, on the basis of the nature of the research proposal of the scholar and the competency of the supervisor to guide the research in that area. The consent of Research Supervisor to supervise the scholar and the willingness of the candidates to work with that supervisor may also be taken into account.

The selected candidates shall remit the prescribed fee including the examination fee and the caution deposit. Subsequent installment of Annual fee and Library fee shall be remitted within 15 days from the beginning of the next year of research, with a fine fixed by the University for next 15 days.
Documents to be produced at the time of admission
The selected candidates shall submit the following original documents at the time of admission.
- SSLC/ equivalent document to prove the age.
- Master’s/P.G. Degree marklists/M.Phil marklists
- The original/provisional Master’s/P.G./MPhil Degree certificate
- Community Certificate in the case of SC/ST/OEC/OBC candidates
- ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the employer in the case of employed persons
- Conduct Certificate
- Transfer Certificate.
- Non Creamy Layer Certificate in the case of OBC candidates
- Eligibility Certificate (For those who have passed qualifying examination from Universities outside Kerala)
- Migration Certificate : In the case of candidates from other Universities, the migration certificate is to be submitted within 4 months from the date of admission.
- Certificate from the Medical Board in the case of diffrently-abled candidates.
- Leave sanction order : In the case of in -service candidates/part time candidates the leave sanction order is to be submitted within 4 months from the date of admission.
Limited fellowships will be offered to eligible candidates in each department subject to the decision of the University.
How to apply
Candidates are directed to submit their applications for admission to the Ph.D. programmes 2022 through online in the University’s Websites : www.ssus.ac.in & www.ssusonline.org on or before 22.10.2022 The fee for Entrance Examination is Rs.150/- which shall be remitted through online mode only.
A printed copy of the filled in applications with the following documents shall be sent to the Heads of Departments concerned, on or before 27.10.2022. The cover containing the printed copy should be superscribed specifying the name of the programme and the Department. The application should be accompanied with the following-
- Self attested copies of mark lists of the qualifying examination.
- Self attested true copies of the Provisional/ Original Degree Certificate.
- No Objection Certificate from the employer, in the case of employed candidates.
- True copy of Community/Caste Certificate (in the case of candidates eligible for reservation).
- Non Creamy Layer Certificate issued by competent authority in the case of OBC candidates and Certificate from the Medical Board in the case of differently-abled candidates. If no Certificate is produced the OBC candidates will be considered under General Category.
- True copy of the Master’s/P.G. Degree/M.Phil. Degree & Provisional Degree Certificate as the case may be.
- Candidates with UGC/JRF shall produce the proof thereof.
Note : Any discrepancy in this notification with the University/UGC Regulation governing Ph.D as is applicable from time to time, the provisions in the said University/UGC Regulations will prevail. The Academic Council may by notification make,amend or repeal regulation governing the Ph.D Programmes and the same may be effective from the 2022 admission onwards as the Academic Council may direct.
