The UGC, New Delhi vide Public Notice No. F. No. 1-3/2021 (QIP) dated 17.03.2022 has published the Draft University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022.

In that following is specified:-

12. De-specification of M.Phil. Degree : The M. Phil. (Master of Philosophy) degree shall be de-specified from the Academic year 2022-23 onwards. M.Phil. Degree awarded till the date of notification of these regulations shall remain valid.

In view of above, it is hereby informed that the university will notify about M.Phil. programme after receiving the guidelines from the UGC, New Delhi.

Online applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to Ph.D. Programme. For details about the Entrance Test, online application, intake capacity, examination centers, and Ph.D. Regulations, the candidate may visit the University web site www.unishivaji.ac.in. under “Ph.D. Admission 2022-23” link.

The Procedure for admission will be carried out as per the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil/Ph.D Degrees) Regulations, 2016 and the amendments there upon from time to time.

The candidate shall submit online application after reading carefully all instructions. However any corrections in application may be conveyed by email:- [email protected]vaji.ac.in before 26/07/2022. Correspondence after due date will not be entertained.

  1. Online Application shall be available from 08/07/2022, 12.00 noon to 24/07/2022 till 12.00 midnight.
  2. Detailed time table and Hall Ticket downloading will be made available on university website.
  3. The entrance examination will be organized either in online or offline mode. The instructions will be published on university website from time to time.
  4. The students will have to select one of the options for examination centre at Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara (for offline mode) while filling the online application.

Important Instructions :-

  1. The candidates are requested to read and understand the admission notification, the regulations & guidelines mentioned in the Prospectus thoroughly.
  2. Admissions for Ph.D. programmes shall be through a Common Entrance Test conducted by Shivaji University, Kolhapur, except foreign students (Please refer RRD 4.4).
  3. For foreign student detailed Admission Procedure is described in annexure II of Ph.D. Admission Prospectus 2022-23.
  4. The reservation policy of Government of Maharashtra will be followed.
  5. The candidates are required to check the category wise intake quota available for Home and Other university candidate. (displayed along with admission notification) for various subject for admission to Ph.D. programme, before filling the online application.
  6. Please note that the intake quota that is displayed along with admission notification for various subjects may vary.
  7. The Merit list of Ph.D. shall be prepared as per the prescribed norms and eligibility criteria of respective programmes.
  8. Application forms are available on web link http://www.unishivaji.ac.in/online_portal/
  9. The candidate need not to submit hard copy of online application to University. However the candidate may get the print out of online application and retain the same for his / her personal information / records.
  10. The Fee for Entrance Test of Ph.D. will be Rs. 850/- (Non- Refundable) for open category candidate and Rs. 600/- (Non-Refundable) for reserved category candidate.
  11. The fee of entrance test shall be remitted through Online Payment Gateway facility.
  12. Application will be considered only after confirmation of payment.
  13. Those candidates who wish to appear for entrance test in more than one subject, can select the subject options in the same (online) application form, provided he/she fulfills the eligibility criteria. However such candidate shall have to remit separate fee for each subject.
  14. The examination schedule for the entrance test will be displayed on the University website www.unishivaji.ac.in under “Ph.D. Admission 2022-23” Link. Therefore the candidates are advised to visit the university website at regularly for all the updates regarding entrance test and admission procedure.
  15. The Entrance Test will be a qualifying test for admission to Ph.D. programme. The Entrance Test will be of 100 marks (50 questions of two marks each with multiple choices). The qualifying marks for Entrance test shall be 50% marks. Provided that a relaxation of 5% of marks (from 50% to 45%) shall be allowed for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/VJ-NT (Non-Creamy layers)/OBC (Non- Creamy layers)/ EWS and /or Differently- abled category in the entrance examination. (Negative marking system will NOT BE followed.)
  16. The Entrance Test shall consist of questions based on Research Methodology (for 50 marks) and subject specific questions (for 50 marks). The Entrance Test shall be conducted at the centre(s) notified on university website. The details of syllabus for the Entrance Test are made available on University Website.

Q. Where is the university located?

Ans. Shivaji University is located in Kolhapur (District Headquarters), Maharashtra State, India

Q. What are the courses / programmes offered?

Ans. Shivaji University offers various degrees, post graduate degree, and Ph. D. programmes, diploma and certificate programmes through the academic departments on university campus and affiliated colleges across three districts of Maharashtra State viz. Kolhapur, Sangali and Satara.

Ans. Out of total available seats, 90 % seats are available for home university students and 10% seats are available for other university students.

Ans. Ph.D. programme shall be of a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of six years.

Q. How to apply and when to apply?

Q. What is the procedure of Hall Ticket / Identity Verification at Examination Centre?

Ans. Hall Ticket downloading is made available for all applicants after confirmation of ‘final name list of candidates’.

Hall Tickets will be verified at the Examination Centre along with Photo Identity Proof (Pan Card/ Driving License / Aadhar Card / College ID/University ID).

Q. Whether exemption is offered in entrance test?

Q. What are the qualifying marks for entrance test?

Ans. The Entrance Test will be a qualifying test for admission to Ph.D. programme. The Entrance Test will be of 100 marks (50 questions of two marks each with multiple choices). The qualifying marks for Entrance test shall be 50% marks. There will be no negative marks for incorrect responses/answers.

Q. What is pattern of entrance test?

Ans. R.R.D. 5. ENTRANCE TEST:

 An Entrance Test shall be a qualifying test for admission to Ph.D. programme. The Entrance Test will be of 100 marks (50 questions of two marks each with multiple choices). The qualifying marks for Entrance test shall be 50% marks. Negative scheme of marking shall not be applicable.

 The Entrance Test shall consist of 50% questions, based on Research Methodology and 50% shall be subject specific. The Entrance Test shall be conducted at the centre(s) to be notified in advance. The details of syllabus for the Entrance Test shall be made available on University Website.

Entrance Examination will be offline/online.

 The duration for the examination will be two hours.

Qualifying the Entrance Test does not essentially mean the confirmation of Ph.D. admission.

The quota for admission shall be 90% for Home University students and 10% for other university students. The reservation rules shall be applicable to 90% quota and 10% quota, separately. The candidate who has obtained the qualifying degree of Shivaji University (for admission to Ph.D. programme) shall be treated as Home University student.

Q. Details of fellowship/studentship?

Ans. The tenure of the Golden Jubilee Research Fellowship will be of 2 years. The value of fellowship will be Rs. 10,000/- along with the Contingency grant of Rs. 10,000/- p.a. The fellowship will be tenable in University Department and Research Centre. The Fellowship will be awarded per year for each subject in University Department and Research Centre separately.

Q. What is the financial assistance scheme for students?

Ans. Shivaji University has ventured to introduce a scheme of Golden Jubilee Research Fellowship for Research Students from 2012-2013 in order to provide financial support.
