Nicholas Pooran is a professional cricketer from the Caribbean nation of West Indies. He was born on October 2, 1995, in Trinidad and Tobago, and is a left-handed batsman and wicket-keeper.

Pooran made his international debut for the West Indies in 2016 and has since become a regular member of the national team in all three formats of the game – Test, One Day International, and Twenty20 International.

He is known for his aggressive strokeplay and quick reflexes behind the stumps. Pooran has also played for various franchises in domestic T20 leagues around the world, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and Big Bash League (BBL).

T20 Franchise Cricket Career

Nicholas Pooran was purchased by the Mumbai Indians team for the 2017 Indian Premier League in February 2017 for INR 30 lakhs, but he did not play any matches during the entire season. In 2017, he played for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League as a replacement for England’s Ben Duckett. He joined the team before the playoffs and made his debut against Karachi Kings.

During the 2018 IPL auction, Pooran set his base price at INR 50 lakhs but went unsold. In October 2018, he was selected by the Sylhet Sixers team following the draft for the 2018-19 Bangladesh Premier League. He emerged as the leading run-scorer for the team during the tournament, scoring 379 runs in eleven matches.

In December 2018, the Kings XI Punjab bought Pooran for 4.2 crore ($590,000) during the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League. In the IPL 2020 season, Pooran played exceptionally well, scoring a total of 353 runs in 14 matches. He was also the fourth-highest six hitter in the 2020 IPL season, hitting 25 sixes in total. However, he only managed to score 85 runs in the IPL 2021 season.

During the 2022 IPL auction, the Sunrisers Hyderabad team bought Pooran for ₹10.75 crores. He was then purchased by the Lucknow Super Giants for INR 16 Crore to play in the IPL 2023 season in the auction held on December 23, 2022.
