NIAS invites applications from eligible candidates for the position of Junior Research Fellow (3 Posts) to work in a project, described below.

About the Project:

The 3-year project “Cultural Landscape Research Using Geospatial Tools and Techniques” has been sanctioned by SHRI programme of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

This project aims to advance the geospatial analysis of archaeological sites in India, addressing the critical need for skilled manpower in this specialized field.

The project focuses on building a team of analysts equipped with essential skills for the nuanced and site- sensitive analysis of cultural heritage landscapes.

Through this project, we aim to support the development of a national heritage database, which has been limited by a shortage of appropriately trained professionals.

Qualifications: NIAS Recruitment Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

Candidates should have a Masters degree or Bachelor’s/Masters degree in Engineering or Technology in any of the

following fields: Geography, archaeology, history, architecture, cultural heritage, heritage conservation, remote sensing, GIS, computer science, or IT. Experience in research, remote sensing, GIS, is an added advantage.

Eligibility: NIAS Recruitment Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

Candidates should also have qualified any one of the following:

a. National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or

b. A selection process through National level examinations conducted by the Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions.

Job Description:

The selected candidate will work with the Principal Investigator to achieve project deliverables and will be based at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore.

The appointment will initially be for one year and may be extended, based on performance, up to the full duration of the project.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Research on cultural heritage sites
  • Geospatial analysis and field surveys (field experience is a plus)
  • Collaborative teamwork
  • Organising and conducting capacity building workshops
