The Jawaharlal Nehru University constituted under the Jawaharlal Nehru University Act 1966, (53 of 1966) came into existence in 1969. Its objectives, as defined in the First Schedule of the Act, are as follows:

“The University shall endeavour to promote the principles for which Jawaharlal Nehru worked during his life-time, national integration, social justice, secularism, democratic way of life, international understanding and scientific approach to the problems of society.

Admission of JRF holders to Ph.D. programme

Only those candidates who fulfil the minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed for admission of candidates to Ph.D. programmes as mentioned in the respective schools/centres and have qualified for Junior Research Fellowship through CSIR, UGC National Eligibility Test (NET), ICMR, ICAR, AYUSH, DBT examination are eligible to apply separately in the prescribed form under this category in the respective school/centre/Special Centre wherever separate intake through JRF category is available (the link for this category will be available on the JNU website). Such candidates shall be exempted from appearing in Computer Based Test (CBT).

However, candidates shall have to appear for an interview and their selection will depend on their performance in the interview. Candidates who have appeared in these examinations, but results awaited may also apply under this category. However, such candidates will be interviewed upon submission of a valid proof of having qualified for or awarded the JRF certificate at the time of interview. Please note that candidates who have been awarded “Lectureship” (without JRF) in the CSIR/UGC examination are not eligible and will not be interviewed. In case of candidates applying under JRF category selection will be done on the basis of 100% viva score.

  1. Online Submission of Application Form – 28th July to 28th August, 2021 (up to 5.00PM of 28th August, 2021)

2. Last date of Successful Transaction of Fee – 29th August, 2021 (upto 11.50 pm) through Credit/Net Banking/UPI

3. Correction in particulars of Application – 1st September to 3rd September, 2021 Form on website only

4. Declaration of Ph.D. result for viva-voce – By 18th October, 2021 (Tentative)

5. Holding of viva-voce examination – 26th October to 3rd November, 2021 (Tentative)

6. Publication of Merit Lists for Admissions – Latest by 9th November, 2021 (Tentative)

7. Pre-enrolment registration and payment of fee with blocking of seats – 10th November to 24th November, 2021

8. Admission/Registration Schedule of – Online registration shall be done after selected candidates: blocking of seat and uploading of all the requisite documents.

9. Deadline for Admission/Registration – 20th December, 2021

Steps to Apply online Registration Form

Step1: Fill the online application with personal details.

Step2: Fill the online application with Qualification Details.

Step3: Fill the online application with Professional Details.

Step4: Upload scanned images of photograph and signature. The image should be in jpg/jpeg format only. Size of photo image must be between 10 kb to 200 kb. Size of signature image must be between 4 kb to 30 kb.

4.Application Fees
The fee (in Indian Rupees) for Ph.D. programme under JRF Category is as follows:

5.The fee is to be submitted through Net Banking/Credit Card/UPI.
6.Application Procedure: Steps to be followed to apply onlineStep1Registration for Online Application Form: Note down system generated Application Number. The candidate should supply all the details while filling the Online Application Form and is also required to create PASSWORD and choose Security Question and enter his/her Answer. After successful submission of the personal details, Application Number will be generated and it will be used to complete the remaining Steps of the Application Form and will also be required for all future correspondence. For subsequent logins, candidate will be able to login directly with the respective system generated Application Number and created Password.Step2Complete the Application Form: Candidate can login with the system generated Application Number and created Password for completing the Application Form.Step3Upload Scanned Images of Candidate’s latest Photograph and Candidate Signature.Scanned latest photograph and signature should be in JPG/JPEG format.Size of scanned latest photograph should be between 10 kb to 200 kb.Size of scanned signature should be between 4 kb to 30 kb.The latest photograph should be coloured or black/white (but clear contrast).Note :Upload the correct latest Photograph and Signature as the facility for correction in images will not be given.Step4Pay Application Fee by payment gateway (Net Banking/Credit Card/UPI) :
Payment by Credit Card/Net Banking/UPI: The candidate has to select Credit Card/Net Banking/UPI Services option to pay the application fee and follow the online instruction to complete the payment of fee. After successful payment, candidate will be able to print the Confirmation Page. In case the Confirmation Page is not generated after payment of fee then the transaction is cancelled and amount will be refunded to the candidate’s account. However, the candidate has to make another transaction, in case the Confirmation Page is not generated.
7.Important Instructions about PASSWORDDuring registration, candidate will be required to choose PASSWORD and Security Question and its Answer. Candidate is advised to remember his/her password for all future logins. The Password must be as per the following Password policy.Password must be 8 to 13 character long.Password must have at least one Upper case alphabet.Password must have at least one Lower case alphabet.Password must have at least one numeric value.Password must have at least one special characters [email protected]#$%^&*-For subsequent logins, candidate will be able to login directly with his/her respective system generated Application Number and the chosen Password.Candidate is advised not to disclose or share his/her password with anybody. JNU will not be responsible for violation or misuse of the password of a candidate.Candidate can change his/her passwords after login, if desired.Candidate should remember to log out at the end of his/her session so that the particulars of the candidate cannot be tampered or modified by unauthorized persons.
8.How to reset your Password : The following options are available to reset PasswordUsing Security Question & its Answer chosen by you while filling the applicationo form.Using a verification code sent via text message (SMS) to your Registered Mobile NumberUsing a reset link sent via Email to your Registered Email address.
9.The Application Number printed on the computer generated Confirmation Page must be mentioned in all such correspondences. It is therefore essential to note down the application number printed on the Confirmation Page.
