Applications are invited through online mode for admission to Ph.D. Programme 2022-23 (Full time/ Part time) in various disciplines from candidates meeting the following conditions and satisfying the eligibility criteria:
- having National Fellowships [JRF (UGC /CSIR /ICMR /ICAR /CFTI)/ INSPIRE/MANF/Women Scientist Scheme (WOS) or any other equivalent fellowship for Ph.D. programme to their credit
- having qualified NET/SET/SLET/GATE/CEED etc.
- International students who are being sponsored by ICCR, New Delhi or any other designated Department of Government of India
Detailed Admission Notification is available on University website www.iust.ac.in and the interested candidates are advised to go through the notice thoroughly to check the eligibility criteria/other details before filling and submitting their Application Forms (online).
Detailed ADMISSION NOTIFICATION (Ph.D.)
Applications are invited through online mode for admission to Ph.D. Programme (Full Time/ Part time) for the Academic Session 2022-23 in the following Departments/Centres/ Disciplines under the provisions of the University Ordinance for award of Ph.D. Degree (Revised-2023):-

* The Ph.D. studies shall be interdisciplinary and shall be carried out in collaboration with the other Departments like English Language & Literature/ Journalism & Mass Communication/ Islamic Studies/ Arabic Language & Literature.

Categories for Ph.D. Admissions
Categories for which the admission can be sought in the Ph.D. program are as follows:
- Full-time
- Candidates with National Fellowships [JRF (UGC /CSIR /ICMR/ICAR/CFTI)/INSPIRE/MANF/Women Scientist Scheme (WOS) or any other equivalent fellowship for Ph.D. programme.
- International students who are being sponsored by ICCR, New Delhi or any other designated Department of Government of India]
- Candidates with NET/SET/SLET/GATE/CEED.
- Part-time
- Internal (Permanent faculty/staff of IUST)
- External (External permanent employees of Government / Semi-Government Organizations/ Institutions / Industry / National laboratories / or any other recognized Institution / organizations/ Foreign candidate category)
Eligibility (Full time):
- A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed
Or
Equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
Relaxation
A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the UGC decision from time to time.
Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the UGC decision from time to time.
- Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification froma foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the UGC decision from time to time.
Eligibility (Part-time):
The general eligibility criteria for part-time candidates shall be the same as is applicable to full time candidates with following additional conditions :
3.1. Internal
(Permanent faculty/staff of IUST)
- Teachers with at least three years of substantive service
3.2.2. Non-teaching Staff with at least five years of substantive service
3.2. External
(Permanent employees of a University, Government / Semi-Government Institutions, Industry, National laboratories, or any other recognized Institution)
- University teachers with at least three years of substantive service;
- Permanent scientists of nationally recognized institutions with at least three years of substantive service;
- Govt. College teachers with at least three years of substantive service;
- State/Central Govt. employees with at least 5 years of substantive service.
3.3 In both the cases (Internal and External) candidates shall have to submit NoC from their employer to pursue the studies.
Procedure for admission
Following mechanism shall be observed for Admission to the Ph.D. programme :-
- Candidates with National Fellowships [JRF (UGC /CSIR /ICMR /ICAR /CFTI)/ INSPIRE/MANF/Women Scientist Scheme (WOS)/ any other fellowship for Ph.D. programme or international students who are being sponsored by ICCR, New Delhi or any other designated Department of Government of India] shall be granted admission directly following an interaction with the DRC which shall determine the suitability of the candidate/s considering his/her area of interest and available resources.
- In case any vacancy/ies is/are left after the procedure at 4.1, candidates having qualified NET/SET/SLET/GATE/CEED shall be called for interview to be conducted by the concerned Departmental Research Committee (DRC).
Selection Procedure : Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST)
- The DRC during the interview/interaction shall make recommendations on the basis of :
- student interest
- inclination
- research aptitude
- area of specialization/interest
- The merit list in respect of candidates shall be evaluated out of the 30 points.
- DRC shall finalize the list of selected candidates.
- Mere appearance in the list of qualified candidates shall not entitle a candidate to the final selection if he/she is found otherwise in-eligible.
- In case of two or more candidates having secured equal points/ merit for shortlisting and /or admission, the inter-se merit shall be determined in order of preference as follows:
- Candidates having higher marks in PG Programme.
- Candidates having higher marks in UG Programme.
- Candidates older in age if marks at (a)&(b) above are equal.
- Selected candidates will have to complete the registration formalities along-with deposition of registration fee and other fee as may be prescribed within the 15 days. However, in respect of in-service candidates, the maximum time limit to complete the registration formalities shall be 2 months;
University provides limited number of fellowships to Ph.D. Scholars on merit basis as per University norms. Mere selection to Ph.D. programme shall not confer any right to the scholar for claiming University Fellowship.
Submission of Forms
The candidates are advised to follow the below mentioned steps for filling the details in their Application Form online:
- Visit the University website www.iust.ac.in, follow the link Admissions 2022-23 and register as a new user/login.
- Enter your email id and click on send email link. Follow the link sent to your email id.
- Enter the details as per your Matriculation Certificate and verify the phone number by entering the verification code sent on your registered phone number. Note your login id for future reference, the same shall also reflect in your registered email id.
- Before filling the Online Application Form, please read instructions carefully and keep the required documents ready for online uploading (wherever applicable)
- Click on “Apply Online” tab and choose appropriate option “Ph.D. Programmes” as per your eligibility.
- Complete all the below mentioned steps:
- Personal Details.
- Academic Details.
- Competitive Exam Details.
- Choose Programme(s) for Admissions.
- Upload Documents (The certificates to be uploaded must be in the format of .jpg, .jpeg, .png or .pdf, between size 100-200 kb.)
- Preview/ Submit & Make Online Payment. (Before clicking Submit & Make Payment check again if all the details/ documents are entered/ uploaded correctly, as it cannot be changed or modified after the final submission & fee deposition. An acknowledgement message will be generated and sent to your registered email id/phone no. on successfully deposition of application fee).
- Download the submitted Application Form (Candidates need not to submit the hard copy of the downloaded Application Form; however, they must keep the printout of hardcopy of the downloaded application form for future reference and records).
Important Notes : Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) PhD Admission
- The detailed eligibility, selection procedure, admission matters, course work, registration, period of residency and other criteria/ guidelines are provided in the University Ordinance for Award of Ph.D. Degree (Revised -2023).
- The reservation for admission to Ph.D. programme shall be applicable as per the University norms.
- The application fee is Rs. 1000/- (non-refundable). In case candidates apply for more than one programme, they shall have to pay an additional fee of Rs. 300/- per programme (non-refundable) through Online mode only.
- The candidature of the candidates who do not possess eligibility criteria notified shall be rejected without any notice.
- The candidates are advised to check the Application Form Status by using the same login id and password and clicking on tab “Application Form Status”.
- The candidature of applicants who fail to submit all the required documents/prescribed application fee shall be rejected.
- Procedure for making corrections / uploading of accurate documents in the already submitted application forms is as follows:
- Send an e-mail to [email protected] and mention the details to be modified along with the required documents (if any).
- Take a re-print of the updated application form after three working days of sending e-mail for checking the changes and for future references.
Note: e-mails from the registered email ID mentioned in the application form will be entertained Only.
