About GATE 2022

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science for admission into the Masters Program and Recruitment by some Public Sector Companies. GATE 2022 is conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and six other Indian Institutes of Technology at Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Chennai, Roorkee & Indian Institute of Science at Bengaluru on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

Given the pandemic situation all the international centers have been cancelled for GATE-2022. However, foreign Nationals can register and give their exam in any cities listed for GATE 2022.

Eligibility Criteria

The following candidates are eligible to appear in GATE 2022 examination
A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program.

A candidate who has already completed any government approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts is eligible for appearing in the GATE 2022 exam.

However, the candidates who possess certification from any of the professional societies must ensure that those examinations conducted by the societies are approved by MoE/AICTE/UGC/UPSC as equivalent to B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Arch. / B.Planning, etc.

Candidates who have obtained / are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India: Must be currently in the 3rd or higher years or completed their Bachelor’s degree (duration: at least 3 years) in Engineering / Technology / Science / Arts / Commerce.

A candidate is allowed to appear either in ONE or UP TO TWO papers of the GATE 2022 examination. However, a candidate is only allowed to select the second paper from the pre-defined Two Paper Combination list.

Multi-sessional papers: Candidate will be assigned to appear only in one of the sessions for the papers running in multiple sessions.

Candidates must familiarize themselves with the paper code as it is required both during application and examination.

A candidate appearing in ONE or TWO Papers should fill ONLY ONE application form. In case of Multiple applications, only one will be accepted and remaining applications will be rejected without any refund for the paid fee.

Required Documents

Data Requirement for Filling the Online Application Form in GATE 2022

  1. Personal information (name, date of birth, personal mobile number, parents’ name, parents’ mobile number, etc.).

    Please note that the name of the candidate in the application form must exactly be the same as that in the valid photo ID, which the candidate MUST produce in original while appearing for GATE-2022 examination at the centre. GATE 2022 scorecard will be issued as per the name entered in the application form.
    Prefix/title such as Mr/Shri/Dr/Mrs/Smt/Prof/Capt, etc. MUST NOT be used before name.
  2. Address for Communication (including PIN code).
  3. Eligibility degree details.
  4. College name and address with PIN code.
  5. GATE paper(s) (subject).
  6. THREE Choices of GATE examination cities.
  7. High quality image of candidate’s photograph conforming to the requirements specified.
  8. Good quality image of candidate’s signature conforming to the requirements specified.
  9. Scanned copy of Category (SC/ST) certificate (if applicable) in pdf format.
  10. Scanned copy of PwD Certificate (if applicable) in pdf format.
  11. Scanned copy of Certificate of Dyslexia (if applicable) in pdf format.
  12. Scanned copy of any one of the valid photo Identity Document: Aadhaar-UID (preferable), Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID and Driving License. The same ID, in original, MUST be carried to the examination hall.
  13. Net-banking/debit card/credit card/UPI details for fee payment.

The fee per subject paper is given below, for two papers the amount of fee is twice that for a single paper.

This is a tentative list of examination cities, and any change will be updated on the website.

Choice of Examination City:
A candidate can choose THREE cities from the list of examination cities given above.

All the three choices must be from the same GATE 2022 zone.

GATE 2022 reserves the right to add a new city or remove an existing one, and allot a city that may not be from any of the choices selected by the candidate.

GATE 2022 will not be conducted in any International centres due to current COVID-19 pandemic.
