About Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University & Department of Physics
In the November of 2010, Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University took a gentle yet courageous step out of its chrysalis when it embarked on its academic odyssey in Purulia, a supposedly back-of-the-beyond place in the desolate Jungle Mahal. Braced by the Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University Act brought forth by the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, the University dreams big of disseminating the cognitive ambience, thereby ascending gradually to the pinnacle of academic excellence.
The objective of this university is to carry the torch of higher education into the very interiors of West Bengal, thereby attempting to create a confluence of the rich local cultural heritage of the place with the global trends in technological know-how.
In 2010, when Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University was established, the Physics Department was amongst the first few departments which started offering MSc courses. At present, two semesters are being run simultaneously with a total of sixty students.
The faculty members are currently involved in teaching as well as research in their respective domains such as electronics, nuclear physics, astrophysics, optics and condensed matter physics. These subjects are also offered as elective and advanced papers.
Founded in 1981, IANCAS is continuously promoting the subject of nuclear and radiochemistry by organizing seminars, workshops and publishing periodical thematic bulletins. With its enthusiastic 1906 Life Members from all over the country and overseas (till March 2022), IANCAS has become one of the popular platforms for popularizing the subject of nuclear and radiochemistry across the country.
IANCAS brings out quarterly thematic bulletins on the topic of relevance to the nuclear science and technology with the financial support from BRNS. So far it has published 75 such bulletins which are distributed free to all its members and are freely available for download.
The Association’s popular book on “Fundamentals of Nuclear and Radiochemistry” is widely sought amongst the academia, researchers and students of DAE, non-DAE units and Universities.
To achieve the excellence in popularizing the nuclear sciences through electronic media, IANCAS has its own website (www.iancas.org.in) which is updated regularly. Information about the workshops, awards and various activities of IANCAS are available on the website.
All the publications of IANCAS including bulletins and books are available in free downloadable form.
ABOUT PURULIA : DAE BRNS-IANCAS National Workshop
The Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University is situated in Purulia town, about 300 km from Kolkata. The Chhota Nagpur plateau is the backdrop of the University. Purulia has rich cultural heritage. It has an amalgamation of cultures of Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha. The town is well connected by air, road and railways. The nearest airport is Ranchi Airport from where it is about a two hours drive.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
As a part of outreach program, IANCAS with the support from BRNS, conducts Workshops on “Radiochemistry and Applications of Radioisotopes” at various Institutes. IANCAS has successfully conducted 104th National Workshop in April 2022 at Khalsa College, Amritsar.
This is the 105th National Workshop of IANCAS, which is aimed to provide a forum for mutual interaction amongst faculty members and scientists from various educational institutions and research organisations.
Eminent scientists and specialists in topics related to nuclear chemistry, nuclear physics, nuclear reactor, production and application of radioisotopes, health & safety aspects will be the resource persons of the Workshop. The lectures will be supplemented by laboratory experiments for the benefit of the participants.
