Assam University PhD Admission 2024-25

Online applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. program to be offered by the following academic departments in Assam University, Silchar H. Q. and Diphu Campus commencing from the academic session 2024-25.

A. Departments offering Ph. D. Courses (Silchar H.Q.)

Agricultural Engineering, Arabic, Bengali, Biotechnology, Business Administration Computer Science & Engineering, Chemistry, Commerce, Computer Science, Earth Science, Ecology and Environmental Science, Economics, Education, Electronics and Communication Engineering, English, Hindi, History, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Law, Library & Information Sciences, Life Science & Bio-informatics, Linguistics, Manipuri, Mass Communication, Mathematics, Microbiology, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Performing Arts, Sanskrit, Social Work, Sociology, Statistics, Urdu, Visual Arts.

B. Departments offering Ph. D. Courses (Diphu Campus)

Assamese, Centre for Tribal Studies, Commerce, Geography, Hindi, History, Life Science & Bioinformatics, Physics, Political Science.

Eligibility Criteria: Assam University PhD Admission 2024-25

The following candidates are eligible to seek admission to the Ph.D. programme as per AUS ordinance on Ph. D programme, 2023.

The candidates who have completed:

(a) (i) A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme in the same and allied subjects after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semeste master’s degree programme in the same and allied subjects after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree in the same and allied subjects by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.

Or

equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in the respective country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.

(iii) A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of UGC from time to time.

(b) (i) Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme in the same or allied subject according to UGC regulations (Minimum Standard and procedure for award of M.Phil./PhD degrees, 2016 and subsequent amendments) with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time.

(ii) Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to the M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established, recognized or incorporated by law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country empowered for assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme.

How to Apply: Assam University PhD Admission 2024-25

Candidates may apply online on payment of Rs. 1000.00 (for General and OBC (creamy layer), Rs. 900.00 (for OBC (NCL)/EWS) and Rs. 800.00 (for SC/ST/PWD) through the web portal,

The portal shall open on 5th November, 2024 and shall remain active till 19th November, 2024

Application fee for the course is non-refundable.

Interested candidate may apply for Ph. D. Programme in maximum of two allied departments. However, separate application should be submitted for each with requisite application fees,

Selection Process for Admission:

The selection of candidates will be done as per UGC Notice No.F.4-1(UGC-NET Review Committee)/2024(NET)/140648, Dt. March 27, 2024 according to which NET qualified candidates will be given preference in the selection process for admission to Ph.D program.

However, candidates without NET may also apply, and selection of such candidates will be done through an Entrance Test (RET and Personal Interview) as per procedure laid down in Assam University Ordinance on Ph.D Program, 2023.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The University may provide Non-NET fellowship to selected candidates on merit basis subject to availability of fund received from UGC.
